I've watched the Loveland TD a couple times and two things stand out:

a. how the fuck do so many players miss that tackle

Gameplay, however, was still following the wargame model with die rolling being the sole arbiter. White Wolf was the first to ask, "But what if we built the game system out of narrative," and the ball was rolling from there.

One thing to remember is that this all starts with D&D, which in turn was a wargame by a wargame company. Lots of early RPGs were from wargame companies: TSR, GDW, FASA. Once it takes off, however, then came the world building and the novels.

Having twice the revenue of the average MLB team helps! Plenty of money for payroll and infrastructure and hiring the best coaches and staff and having the best tools and and and...

This argument is basically saying "I'm rich because I worked harder at it than the poors."
