Everything just has this extra layer of unnecessary complexity and rules that I would really struggle to adapt to if I actually lived here. And there would be so much more of it if I did so.

Osaka Castle: the elevator only goes from floor 1 to 5 (of 8) and back. There is an elevator door on each floor but a sign saying "The elevator does not stop here". Photos are prohibited on some floors but allowed on others. It's confusing.

Months ago I reserved a train ticket to Nikko. Or so I thought. I had made only one of two purchases required to go to Nikko. You need to buy them separately.

Going to Ghibli Park and being forced to listen to an attendant telling you, individually, the same rules every time you enter an exhibit (no photos, no drinking, wear your backpack on your front?!)
