I kinda hate that stat in general because I think it's susceptible to small sample sizes and random factors like who scores first

That's because I understand words like important, impactful, or consequential

Without more information, I assume the speaker would have used one of those other words if that was actually what they meant

This is a good discussion. There was also that season where Grealish barely got any game time, then was really impactful in April & May. And Pep always seemed to use KdB that way

For instance, when Havertz comes back, I would love to see Gyork not start for a run of games, so he's fresher later

We make so many tactical mistakes by assuming their goals are the same but their means are different.

No, they don't have the same goals. They either want to punish people or loot the joint, maybe a little of both. Not sure why it's so hard for many to be clear-eyed about that.
