This thriller/mystery was solid despite some predictable twists. What it loses in surprise, it gains in complex family dynamics. The story shines in its portrayal of three siblings navigating their mother's death and the secrets they've kept.

There's a term for the last 10 chapters of a Brandon Sanderson novel - The Sanderlanch! It's a term used to describe a series of emotionally powerful events happening very quickly. This book takes it to a whole new level. Highly recommend!

I have to have two picks this month as my top reads. One book and one trilogy. My favorite book has to be Rise of Empire, which is the second volume in The Riyria Revelations #3-4. My favorite trilogy is the Gentlemen Bastards series, which starts with The Lies of Locke Lamora.

This book was a rare instance where I felt it had been over-edited. While it's fast-paced and vivid, it rushes past subtle explanations. The romance was also awkward and unconvincing. For those looking for a concise (under 400 pages), high-seas fantasy, I'd recommend giving it a try.
