A large number of these companies either donated to something else, before the Tangerine Troglodyte mentioned the ballroom, or gave money through being sued. Just because Trump is claiming that they donated to the ballroom doesn’t make it true. Like any right wing leader, he lies, he misdirects.

I mean, let’s be realistic. The Orange Menace doesn’t even have sufficient patience or sufficient appreciation of the food he eats to cure a skillet. He paid other people to take his exams. He thought that inserting lights into people might cure Covid. That intellectual gnat might cure cancer? Pfft!

If I lived in the US, my car would have stickers that would indicate I was of Latin American background. And when ICE wanted a chat, I’d tell them that I got the car second hand and it came with the stickers. I’d very happily waste their time chasing me, in the hope that it spared someone else.

For anyone who thinks that the oligarchs don’t want to crash the economy, encourage them to read Stark, by Ben Elton. It’s fiction, and I don’t think our oligarchs are as well coordinated or forward thinking as that lot, but there’s a really interesting part early on when the economy crashes

SCOTUS (unintentionally) gave Biden a giant get out of jail free card. All that extra immunity! And he did nothing with it. One could very easily say that the world is in this position because of Biden. He didn’t drop a ball, he dropped enough balls to fill an arena.

Much of this funding was obtained before he even announced the ballroom though. Plenty of those companies did not intend to fund a ballroom.

(Leave it to Trump to be both thrifty and dishonest!)

But don’t forget that a lot of these donations are the funds from lawsuits that Trump has won, or leftover money from previous fundraising. As I understand it, a significant number of the donors didn’t necessarily intend to fund a ballroom.

So for now at least, I won’t boycott until I know for sure

I’d look to Reagan for that. He was the one who gave US citizens permission/encouragement to hate the poorest and to blame the poorest for their problems. (And he also bestowed trickle down economics, thus ensuring a strong supply of poorest people for decades to come)

I think that this is one of the many side effects of the US obsession with not paying taxes. You see those side effects with every US tourist on YouTube talking about the quality of public transport or parks or healthcare or government facilities etc in other countries

You are telling me, hand on your heart, that Trump asked for Russian help and paid/intimidated adult stars for the silence, *and* there was Cambridge Analytica, for him to win in 2016, *and* Jan 6 2016, none of which resulted in him paying any penalty, and you think he hasn’t cheated since?

But remember, a good deal of these donors didn’t realise what they were donating to. Classic example: some of the TV channels that Trump sued, their money is now going to this and they are getting the “credit”. How do we find out who actually knew what they were donating to?
