The issue w Trump is that voters were constantly told in 2016 that electing Trump would be the end of Democracy and... he only served one term. So in 2020 when voters got the identical message as in 2016, they didn't believe it.

So many people treat this as a binary where you can either address “kitchen table issues” or social issues. What the American electorate has signaled over and over again is that kitchen table issues win elections and then you have a lot of leeway with what social issues you can work towards.
