My favorite thing is they're very, very straightforward.

I went to buy an SD card and it was priced higher on the shelf than it was online. But at checkout, they charged the lower online price without me needing to ask and without making a show out of it. Just charged the lower of the two prices.

They're the best. They've got good prosumer brands (for instance, Audio-Technica and Beyerdynamic feature heavily in their headphone lineup rather than Beats and Bose), their staff know what they're talking about, and they have my email but they don't spam it - they just send me my receipts.

@whetmoser.com was technically first to the punch, but I also give @toneloaf.bsky.social credit - it's the side of the Micro Center on Elston, facing the entrance to the adjacent Five Below!
A screenshot of Bluesky replies from whet moser and Pumpkinloaf both saying "Micro Center"

Hint 6 (practically giving it away now):

If you were to make a trinity of teenage computer geek power locations in Chicago, it would consist of Northside College Prep, the old American Science & Surplus in Jefferson Park, and this place.

Not the Florsheim building - it's a retail building

Hint 5:

It is near a Chick-fil-A.
borodda.bsky.social
Is it near a Chic-Fillet?

It does look very Sears-like, but I don't think it was once a Sears. I'll double check that, though...

No, but that's a very pretty building.

Hint 4:

The parking lot is way too big.
sorenspicknall.bsky.social
That's an excellent guess, but no!
sorenspicknall.bsky.social
Hint 3:

It's a retail building.
sorenspicknall.bsky.social
Nope! But very interesting guess.

Hint 2:

It's on the north side.

This isn't the easiest challenge in the world, so I'll drop some hints. First hint:

It's a privately owned building, not a government building
sorenspicknall.bsky.social
I will say it's about as far as it could possibly be from an SOM commission, but I see why you would think that.
sorenspicknall.bsky.social
No, but that's not a bad guess given the visual cues

A challenge for Chicagoans: who can tell me where I took this photo?
A photo of a concrete wall with vertical textured stripes pressed into its surface in groups of two, three, four, and five. A former window in the middle of the wall is filled with cinder blocks.
