It should be easy for an archivist to search and find what they need - by artist/author, by date, by service, by categories. A digital archive that is totally disorganized and unsearchable is significantly less helpful!

Due to this lack of archival knowledge, all archives have issues.

Store all copies in at least 3 locations - local drive, backup collection, cloud. If any one service goes down, revert from backups immediately.

Make sure all materials follow the laws of any services you use. If storing sensitive materials prone to exclusion, encrypt it first. Laws change.

Include as much metadata from the original file as possible - when was it initially created? Who authored it?

3 copies: Original lossless format (TIFF, SVG, PDF with lossless settings), distributed historical format (Bitmap, JPG), and optimized format for distribution (PNG, WebP).

If restoring from a poorer quality, use advanced denoise algorithms gently and DO NOT sharpen the results. Try to maintain the original integrity without overshooting. The goal is to remove artifacts, not add more. More advanced techniques are used in the Virtual Furry Museum to emulate surfaces.

SO MANY HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS are poor-quality JPGs which is notoriously lossy and adds compression artifacts, obfuscating legibility and materials! If you have originals, rescan them using modern technology and higher quality. Store art as far away from UV light (sun) and PVC as possible.

Digital preservationists! Please use these guidelines:

Scan printed materials at least 150-300 DPI. In order of importance: legibility, then clear recognition of materials.

Save as TIFF. This is lossless and includes color profiles. Programs don't tend to read color profiles from PNGs properly.

Bitmap is an extremely old, totally uncompressed format! PNG is much smaller.

The moral guardians who always panic "Think about the children" clearly don't actually care for children's health or education. It's just something they say to get whatever censorship they want. But genuine education and autonomy? What they're really opposed to is critical thinking.

I created a new VRChat group after being told I was welcome to be a babyfur at a weekly event to have that revoked due to pressure from others to have folks like myself not allowed to wear those kinds of avatars. That was the last straw for me as this has been a thing for YEARS!

What is design, but art with a purpose?

Said this in a conversation I had with a Furry who makes incredible things, but kept putting off art to focus on design. Art and design are not diametrically opposed, and it is not unreasonable to include art in all matters of design.

I'm in the world now and the second song plays just fine. The song could be blocked in your country, or there may be an issue with YT-DLP. The video player didn't change and you're the only person who's reported this issue. Try dragging the slider to the end to skip the song.

A detailed writeup on the cost of games and U.S. inflation information from December 1982 have been added. Some naysayers like to pretend it wasn't the high cost and low quality of games that lead to the Market Crash of 1983, so this information provides much better context to secure history.
