he is troubled, in the various scenes with him before he murders the taxi driver he engages in various acts of petty violence

in the final act, we get a sense of what made him this way, the killing of his young sister caused by a friend

yet the director kieslowski (and piotr, his defence lawyer) still see great injustice in his murder in turn,

jacek in the antechamber before he is hanged, surrounded and restrained by a whole host of officers, the image a sickly yellowish green as he smokes his final cigarette
