It’s my best friend’s birthday, I remembered after my wife told me. The more I read the Odyssey and listen to my student’s commentary, the harder I find it to believe that the Greeks ever celebrated Odysseus as a hero. I wonder if that interpretation arose in the West as a way of justify combat skills over everything else…
