That’s why this year’s NSHD theme, Collections at Risk, could not have been more fitting.
This is a fantastic example of community spirit, collaboration, and preserving sporting heritage for future generations. #CollectionsAtRisk #SportingHeritage #HeartsHeritage

The older the minute books, the greater the risk, not only because the material itself is delicate, but because their historical context is slipping further away from living memory.
sportingheritage.bsky.social
In previous sessions, volunteers had already completed 150 minutes of transcription, but 144 minutes from this fascinating period remained unfinished. Using NSHD as the perfect opportunity, they rallied the community to protect these fragile records and ensure their stories are not lost.

A big shout-out to Hearts Heritage for marking #NSHD2025 with a brilliant Live Transcribathon event at the Hearts Museum!

Hearts Heritage invited volunteers to join their community challenge to help transcribe historic Club minute books, some dating back to 1896–98.

For #NSHD, the museum opened its doors with an interactive Fitbaw History Hunters trail around Castle Gardens. Visitors of all ages had the chance to explore local football history, reminisce over archive photos, and even help put names to faces in the collection.
sportingheritage.bsky.social
As one of our grant recipients, the museum is working on an exciting project uncovering the hidden histories of Dunoon’s pioneering female footballers from the 1970s, a group whose legacy has too often been overlooked in the wider sporting narrative.

Castle House Museum, set in beautiful gardens opposite Dunoon Pier, has been at the heart of local history since 1824. Originally built as a holiday home for the Lord Provost of Glasgow, it has since served as council offices & the town library.

A huge thank you to @CastleHouseMuseum for celebrating #NSHD2025 with a brilliant day of free, football-themed fun for all the family, hosted within the walls of this historic Dunoon landmark.

Without them, so many collections and stories would be lost. From individuals who set up charities specifically to protect & care for sporting heritage, to volunteers who log collections from start to finish, we want to shout about the work volunteers do, protecting sporting heritage for the future
