*probably post

I should probably proof read. But nah.
statsforbios.bsky.social
I should probably about stats more...

Don't worry about assumptions.
New is better than right.
The ultimate application is unimportant. Dunking on other statisticians is vital.

Now seems that riding the wave is now important. People will ignore an album they dislike but people will forget an artist if they go too long without content.

Or I'm seeing patterns where the are none. Also totally possible.

Is there a tendency these days for artists to rush out an album soon after some sort of break through?

I feel I've seen it a few times. I know back in CD days, releasing a bad or different album after your breakthrough was suicide.

Going to ASTMH (first time!) in Nov. Any old or new friends going?
statsforbios.bsky.social
I watched a load recently. Absolutely love it. Hal trying to change a lightbulb or something and ending up fixing the car is a favourite

Got to the end of the album and listening to it again immediately.

Don't be put off by the first 2 minutes. Hold out until 2.02 to see the first inklings of beauty.

This one's definitely worth a go if you don't like black metal but do like post rock, indie? or maybe some other genres. There's some singing. And lots of beauty.

Usually when I get into a genre, I listen to a bunch of bands and quickly 3-5 float to the top and I abandon the rest.

But it seems like every month I find a new black metal band that I may love forever.

We quickly settled on the idea that detection in any formal, scalable way was impossible.

Wait, stata costs twice as much if you want to run it using 2 cores? And even more for 4 cores? Lol.
A table of stata prices. Standard is $94. "MP 2 core" is $275.

You can quite easily find examples of chatgpt not giving great code advice by selecting a very new package on CRAN. Useful for teaching.

Sure, totally agree. And again other people can want what they want!

Hope that's good options to filter out videos. Horses for courses but that's not what I'm here for.

With TikTok being sold to right wing American companies & them being pretty transparent that they will use it to shut down talk they don't like, can everyone posting videos there start also posting them here? Ppl are making apps which will pull vids posted to Bsky but we need more creators!!

Sounds like right censoring but not sure you know when the censoring happens. You know the item was censored at some point after start time stamp?

Come on England. Great half of rugby.

Oh ok, pancake day here is definitely similarly co-opted by seculars. It's great. Poles have an equivalent fat Thursday where they eat donuts which I'm also very supportive of.
statsforbios.bsky.social
You're an ozzie? Interesting that you do HCBs, wasn't sure if they were UK only.

Do you observe pancake day? Don't think the US does.

Getting to the end of Grapes of Wrath on my re-read and really just want to stop here. I know it's going to get so sad.

Lab meeting discussion today is on how to come up with new scientific ideas (next project etc.). Looking forward to it.

Asked everyone to send in some science ideas. So we've all reminded ourselves what it feels like to come up with ideas. And we'll share our process a bit.

I had an idea yesterday about making a word search that, when solved, would be a data visualization.

So, I coded it up... and it worked!

This shows abundance of three bird species in Brooklyn Bridge Park over a year.

It feels like there are some fun possibilities here.

Open question as to whether everything chatgpt says is by definition a meme (sensu stricto). But I'll leave that for another day.
statsforbios.bsky.social
Is "there ya have it folks" something chatgpt loves to spit out? Or a meme that I've missed. I see it on a million linkedin posts and sometimes it doesn't even make much sense.

The idea behind it is "we were all waiting for this answer, and now we do". But thats not always the angle of the post.

Please don't retweet entire threads. If I'm interested in the one or two tweets, I'll read the rest of the thread.
