Obama: "It's like every day is Halloween, except it's all tricks and no treats. And here's the thing -- it's not as if we did not see some of this coming. I mean, I'll admit it's worse than even I expected, but I did warn y'all. And you know what? Donald Trump warned you too."

"It’s comforting to imagine that a president feels our pain. But Johnson can’t hide the truth: Trump is a sadist, and his strategy in the shutdown has been to break the Democrats’ will by hurting the people they represent." ICYMI @saletan.bsky.social:
Trump Isn’t Easing the Shutdown Pain—He’s Inflicting It
Mike Johnson says the president is protecting Americans from the shutdown. That’s completely wrong.

File under “America, where everyone is now 12,” this notice in a hospital waiting room is alarmingly similar to the kind of “rules for play time” stuff on the wall when I was in kindergarten.

America & the world can never trust the US Presidency & our calcified, two-party Congress again.

In @liberalcurrents.com, I argue we need to reform the executive (limit it), make the legislature supreme, & institute multiparty proportional representation.

It’s time for multiparty democracy and a limited executive.

It’s the “shadowy cabal” of “elite globalists” operating in secret who are causing all the problems, not the billionaire capitalists sitting front row at the inauguration of the most powerful man in the world

Yes. A new form of Anglo-Israelism is circulating among the groypers, and QAnon is blood libel. Not in the new hasbarist spin on it, no, in its original medieval Christian form.
This is Christendom’s OG sin, and America is its latest iteration. Evangelical eschatology is genocidal wrt Jews.

Antisemitism is the master key of every conspiracy theory. Every conspiracy theory becomes antisemitism if you follow it down the rabbit hole far enough. Not too surprising that a right wing politics built entirely on the most insane conspiracy thinking on earth is proving to be really antisemitic!

The thing about right-wing cultural / entertainment / art is that it is so awful that even right-wingers don't really want to pay to see it. They want it to exist in a nebulous "own the libz" way; they want Lee Greenwood to be on the bill but even they won't pay to sit through Lee Greenwood.

“SNAP is a subsidy to low wage employers” isn’t a compelling argument once you get past the surface, but SNAP payments are definitely an important part of the revenue of grocery retailers and without that we should assume that their already escalating prices are likely to escalate more.

people: hello Ed nice to meet you

me: the Old English word "mare" for a goblin or incubus type creature only survives in modern English in "nightmare." A nightmare is literally a weird litte demon guy sitting on your psyche as you sleep.
