I like good food, good wine, and really really bad 80's pop music. There are other things about me, but you'd find them even less interesting.

I find it interesting that the surveillance state showed up as a bunch of name brand products and we didn't just welcome it... we paid top dollar for it. Then the stuff we bought turned around and *sold us* to advertisers, the government, and other corporations.

The "benevolent white master" myth is the direct antecedent to saying a person of color should "show more gratitude for what this country has provided them."

It's not a dog whistle. It's raw racism put on display without shame or fear of consequence.
A tweet from JD Vance saying Joy Reid would be happier if she "showed a little gratitude"

I can't wait to see them feature a Halal pulled pork recipe in the near future.

I've enjoyed the game out of the gate. The gunplay feels about right and the vehicles feel more balanced than in beta. All I've ever wanted from the BF franchise since BF4 was an updated BF4. My wait is over.

Bummer that EA got bought by evil assholes, though.

That far right one does seem like a bit of a stretch. [Double entendre where neither entendre is about sex smugness]

It's OK... I hate me too.

The second from the left has very strong "Shantae but it's, like, October and I'm just going to hang out instead of fighting pirates or weird mermaids and shit for a while."

They're all cool, but if I had to pick my fav autumnal outfit from the four, it'd be that one. It's really excellent work.

Well, time to see what all the fuss is about.

Politics is indeed a horseshoe in this American moment. Trump is as much a product of the people who refused to vote against him as the people who voted for him.

But he could gain infinite life by humping a turtle at the end of 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. That sounds better than becoming a farmer in this economy, to me.
Video game capture of Super Mario bros showing Mario landing on a turtle shell to geteate "1UP" extra lives.

I've been lucky enough to attend two eclupse totalities and one of the weirdest parts was how the wildlife reacted. Birds fell silent and bugs made quite a ruckus. It really added to the bizarreness of the event.

It's like Trump is patterning military deployments against US citizens after Kyle Rittenhouse's misadventures. It's very much a "create your own peril so you can shoot your way out of it" kind of thing. They just need something to react to.

Pecan balls!

Vanilla ice cream rolled in pecans and then topped with hot fudge and Carmel.

Cognition is like strength. Use is required to not just gain, but maintain. The more thinking and cognitive work we offload, the duller we become as a result.

It's like deciding you'll use a mobility scooter without need and then figuring out a year later that you can no longer walk.

So capitalism, completely unfettered and unrestrained by regulatory oversight, seems to be working out exactly as one might expect.

The US is really having a normal one, ain't it?
