Former Republican who disavowed and left the GOP 15 years ago when it moved too far right, abandoned any principles, and became irredeemably stupid. Actually, come to think of it, I came here from Twitter for pretty much the same reasons.

Bluesky doesn't have pinned posts yet and the bio is only so long, so until then I'll use this post to state some of my interests & add to it in replies if I feel a need to expand on anything:

Tabletop Roleplaying Games (ttrpgs|D&D|RuneQuest|CoC), Archeology, Anthropology, Mythology, Astrophysics!

So you're saying there IS a way to get RFKjr to take his vaccines?
stevemnd.bsky.social
Oh, I'm VERY much aware of the Reign of Terror. As far as I can see, we are already past the tipping point, and we will never again have a country like we used to have.

Either way, there WILL be millions of dead and inconceivable harm done—either BY this Fascist State, or AFTER its destruction.
stevemnd.bsky.social
Yep. Honestly—and I hate to say it—I'm not really seeing any way out of this mess anymore, shy of a literal France-and-the-guillotines public uprising to violently trim the top percentile of the country and its politicians. TPTB waited too long to do anything, so IMHO peaceful options are long gone.

I've found starter packs to be a handy list of people to look at and THEN decide if I want to follow them, as opposed to just something else to blindly throw into my feed.

Until Bluesky gives us the ability to turn off reposts/quotes on a per-individual basis, I can't really follow too many people.

Clarification: President Donald Trump's administration for now HAS BEEN TOLD they must stop firing workers during the government shutdown.

Given that this "administration" consistently ignore laws and rulings that it does not like, this ruling IN NO WAY guarantees it will be followed or enforced.
stevemnd.bsky.social
If this regime can (and does) ignore laws with no repercussions, and no one in a position of power is willing to enforce them when they are ignored, DO the laws really matter anymore...?

< control from them at some point down the line (which is NOT going to be via the courts, since the GOP blithely ignores the law now)… if things then just go back to 'normal' it won't change anything. The GOP is now a full-on fascist organization and WILL try this same things EVERY TIME from now on.
stevemnd.bsky.social
This. SO MUCH this. We might have been able to steer things back towards normalcy before, but since Jan 20th, we've lost ALL hope of just going "back to the way things were."

Most notably because the GOP has now tasted fascism, and there's NO way back from that for them. Even if we SOMEHOW wrest >

True, but I only had so much space to type, so "and his band of" etc.) had to suffice.

And yes, this is in NO WAY a new issue, but one can't deny that things on the Right rocketed SHARPLY once Trump was in play. I mean, there's a REASON this level of open shit has not been seen in modern history.
stevemnd.bsky.social
I mean, several people can't be wrong.
stevemnd.bsky.social
Right? It's a small comfort, I suppose, that at least the ones out front in this fascist regime are just so, SO bad at their own messaging. I can think of a dozen things he could have made up about the Portland protests to discredit them, yet "naked people on bikes scare me!" is the choice he made.
stevemnd.bsky.social
Right? Honestly, if I were the head of any sort of international organization, I couldn't trust the US to not kidnap and/or "disappear" several of my members right off the street during the event.

We should remember that the original metaphor was "one bad apple can spoil the barrel."

These Young Republicans aren't the bad apples that spoil the barrel. They are THE BARREL that have now BEEN spoiled.

The original bad apples are Trump and his band of racist, homophobic, misogynistic fascists.
stevemnd.bsky.social
We SHOULD care about not spreading such untruths like this, because this fake story also puts untrue words into the mouth of AOC as well as those cretins.
stevemnd.bsky.social
I'm pretty sure that never happened. On social media, people have been saying that this exchanged occurred between Ivanka and jasmine Crockett, not AOC. And even then, the only sources I see about THAT theoretical exchange looks to be fake Twitter threads and AI YouTube videos; no actual news sites.

And just in case people didn't pick up on it: even if it was framed as such, it WASN'T a joke.

These were said in a joking tone, but—just like all the unfiltered drivel that constantly sloughs off Trump's brain and out his mouth—they'd be absolutely delighted if any of it actually DID happen.
stevemnd.bsky.social
I mean, it's not the first time Trump's gotten rid of these types of professionals, so one can only wonder what the next plague that hits us will be? With RFKjr also in play, the mind boggles at the vast array of biocalamities that can—and likely WILL—hit us while we are woefully unprepared, again.

"I was shocked and disgusted to learn about the racist, anti-Semitic, and misogynistic comments attributed to members of the New York State Young Republicans, […] This behavior is indefensible and has no place in our party or anywhere in public life."

Dude, that ALL the GOP has been for YEARS now.
stevemnd.bsky.social
Fair, but training your eye sounds like something very useful, especially to us non-indigenous folks, who might not even realize we're missing anything in the first place. Thanks for the effort, regardless of whether or not it gets its own release.
