I figured their estates would be involved.

I didn’t look, but they didn’t even get story credit on IMDB/Wikipedia.

Maybe they just wrote a big check to shut them out, or maybe they didn’t think anyone would notice.
stlkirk.bsky.social
That makes sense.

I'm surprised they didn't market it as a remake. Connecting it to Shop and You've Got Mail would probably spark interest.

Also how did they get around crediting the original screenwriters?

Watching Prime's new romcom, Maintenance Required. It's a remake of Shop Around the Corner, but they don't credit the Shop or the play it's based on.

Same plot. Mimics key scenes. A character even says, "Shop Around the Corner."

How did they get away with it?

One of my biggest pet peeves is people insisting martial arts are only Asian fighting arts.

Mars was the Roman god of war.
That’s why we say ‘martial arts,' ‘martial law,' and 'court martial.'

Marshall was the Roman god of designer fashion at discount prices.
That’s why we have Marshall’s.

A file naming trick I picked up from the military is using the year, month, day date format (20251005) to delineate versions.

That keeps the files in numerical/alphabetical order. The newest version will always appear at the top or bottom of the list.

I just found this hilarious thread.

Born Nov. 2, 1974, Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. -- known to the world as Nelly -- is 18,530 days old today, matching Wilford Brimley's age on the day 'Cocoon' was released. Congrats Nelly! You've reached the Brimley/Cocoon Line.

Hey why haven’t I seen a joint press statement from every blue state governor promising to cooperate and coordinate against the explicitly declared invasion of our cities by the US military?

Hey why haven’t I seen an all-hands press conference from democratic leadership saying the president must be impeached for threatening to use troops on US citizens? Like why aren’t 25 key Dems in a room right now with every camera in the country?

Personally, I'm way more offended by the lack of periods than a misused sports term. 😄

I really just wanted to be the American that got to correct a writer for The Economist on something specifically British. How often am I going to get that opportunity? 🙂

I'm in no way a cricket expert, but I was sure I'd heard it used by the Pakistanis when I was in Iraq. I Googled it just be sure before posting.

(For reference the Pakistanis worked as contractors on base and watched a ton of cricket.)

Cricket has pinch hitters as well.

I never thought drug dealers had to be good salesman. Drugs kind of sell themselves.

I didn't think you were outraged. The OP seemed quite upset.
stlkirk.bsky.social
I honestly do not understand people getting outraged over this. It's not a local grocery store.

It's like going to Bergdorf's and screaming about $10K purses or $2K shoes. The excessive price is part of the allure.

I'm fine with breaking rules in the script, if you feel that's the best way to tell the story. I'm pretty conservative in my writing, but I've seen scripts that break rules, but read really well.

But if you are arguing that consistent sluglines, "Are holding back your vision," I'm done with you.

Wasted time and money on the company move, dressing an unused location, re-securing, re-dressing, and re-lighting the previous bedroom. All because of a bad slugline (and lazy pre-pro).

This was a $25-30 million professional movie. Not a student film. 3/3

Where it was listed as “BEDROOM”. Locations and art thought it was a different bedroom. It was not clarified until the writer/director got to set.

We had to move to the cover set. 2/

I was on a “studio” indie where we had to move to a cover set because the bedroom we scheduled for the day was supposed to be the same bedroom we’d shot 10 days prior.

They had secured and dressed a 2nd bedroom because the script listed it as “DAVE’S BEDROOM” except for one scene. 1/
