Gamer. I paint miniatures, build worlds, design games, hike, cook, and generally try to enjoy being creative. I'm snarky, irreverent, cynical, supportive, adaptable, and my social skills are meh. Banner courtesy of @andreriveraart.bsky.social

Right, so... suppose I should pin something with my released game (eventually games) since people are following me for being a hobbyist game designer now.

stormcaller3801.itch.io/after-the-moon - simple card-based storytelling game about werewolves remembering what they did under the full moon.

Aetheric pollution can also affect plants and wildlife, so as more aether is pumped out of the earth and used by civilization, the more potential risk there is for affecting the world as a whole.

The world's currently around the 1920s-1930s...

Exposure to aether causes goblinization over time, altering individuals in various ways. The exact results vary greatly, but you end up with goblins, orcs, dwarves, elves, spellcasters, etc., which seems at least partially affected by a person's cultural identity.

Going with the latest project, I'm blatantly stealing other people's ideas and throwing them in a blender. As one does.

Aether is a concentrated liquid form of magic, akin to petroleum. Just replace the Mesozoic->Paleozoic eras with the Feywild, basically.

As for the rest, it's just an aesthetic thing.

Changelings and shapeshifting in general is a personal favorite because I just like the mechanic in general. Changing appearance, changing species, wildshape, etc. are all fun and useful.

Iron Kingdoms gobbers are an amalgam of the traditional small folk (minus dwarves); sneaky, clever, inventive. They've got chameleon skin and have the general 'designated sidekick/comedy relief' vibe.
stormcaller.bsky.social
Shadowrun orcs in particular because they're not the Warcraft/GW giant slabs of exaggerated muscle and jawlines. They're bigger, stronger, but also get some nuance. They feel powerful but also a bit tragic with a 35 year lifespan.

There's always one more that I can't forget, so, in no particular order:

Orcs
Iron kingdoms goblins (gobbers)
Shapeshifters (changelings)
Anything with horns (tieflings, satyrs, etc.)

I was going for somewhere between House Baratheon and Louis XVI, but...

In City of Heroes I created a blue-skinned teleporter with a barbed tail, and then later a blue robot who fired energy blasts from an arm cannon, and neither without realizing what I was doing. So...

Corrupt is probably Chebrusk. For all that the government prides itself on diplomacy and public outreach, it's all circuses and very little bread. The nobility enriches themselves by ensuring the poor fall into exceptions in the social programs, bribery, fraud, and embezzlement.

I did, primed them white. I debated whether I should do something else but I wanted a universal baseline for all paints regardless of type or manufacturer, since my ultimate goal was picking colors based on the end result. White seemed like the right choice.

I had washes that really needed texture to help distinguish them, and I realized partway through that it also helps with displaying opacity for the other colors. One coat, straight from the bottle, no thinning. And I could use scaled down base inserts.

The camouflage had to be purple, of course.
#miniatures
A group of partially painted miniatures. Seven are orcs wielding various sci-fi weapons. There is also a round bipedal alien that's bright blue and wrapped in bombs as well as a goblin holding a grappling hook. The orcs are wearing purple camouflage pants as well as one with a camouflage face mask and another with a camouflage cape.

Slimes are something outside the usual taxonomy- like fungi. Not plants, not animals. There's the occasional odd monocellular sort, but most are colonies of microorganisms attempting to consume whatever gets their attention and extruding pharmacological waste products.

If one of the old gods chose you, well, you're likely to have a short but exciting life as you now exist for their entertainment. They may get bored and find someone else but they're more likely to put you in interesting situations to see what happens.

If you've been chosen by the King in White or the Queen in Black, congratulations you're being rewarded for your devotion to their principles. You'll get blessings and likely a position in the local religious hierarchy. You may not want to make that public if the Queen chose you.

Properly green now. Except for Lucky.

I'm counting the blending as decent but I might go over it all with a green glaze to try and smooth it out more. Pretty happy with the blue though.

#miniatures
A group of partially painted orc miniatures holding various sci-fi weapons and wargear. Their skin is painted a yellow green. There is also a ball-like creature with two legs that's almost entirely mouth wrapped in various explosives. It is painted a vivid blue color.

My most recent trick is just worrying about relative location, assigning important local geography (this place has a lot of rolling hills, that one's known for mountainous forests) and then assign squiggly lines around them as needed.
An arrangement of seven text blocks in a hexagonal shape on a black background. Each one names a region while several have a list of geographic features like rolling fertile plans, ashen wastes, and scattered forests.

Decided I'd do some painting for Orctober. Preparation for some green Speedpaint is complete.
#miniatures
A group of nine models seven of which are futuristic orcs wielding a variety of weapons. There is also a goblin holding a grappling hook and a spherical two legged creature that is all mouth wrapped in explosives. The upward facing surfaces of the skin on all of them have been painted pale yellow while the folds creases and lower areas of the skin are tinted purple.

The sapient constructs get treated as second class citizens a lot so the mortality of their oppressors tend to inspire a constant mental monologue of "what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-"
stormcaller.bsky.social
Opinions vary widely. The undead elves tend to be preoccupied with whatever is keeping them around so it's, "Oh, you're still around!" Others vary from savoring the time they have with them, indulging them like a small child's whim, or treating them as not people.

Work in an hour, so just getting ready.
