Oh yeah.. I agree totally.. all I’m saying is they will most likely try to challenge it using CALEA provisions under ‘new technology must allow surveillance’. The act also requires a warrant for such surveillance.. But I agree, it shouldn’t be allowed without a warrant.

Gotcha.. the key is legit cid.. I gotta believe anything that gives users the ability to prevent intercepts by selecting specific cid’s will be challenged under CALEA.. So you are working to build a debug function for androids for developers?

It would be interesting if something was built in geocoding cell sites and not allowing anything not coded to connect.. but that probably violates CALEA

It was still working on IPhone 11… I retired in 2023 and we were still using it.. I just tried it on my IPhone 13 and it’s now unsupported.. so yeah.. it’s gone now..

And they have been using cell interceptors forever…This is nothing new.. There are ways to force a phone to a certain tower and sector in debug, did it all the time.. but beyond most users..

2/2 it’s important to remember that phones can be forced remotely to transmit location in certain situations even when powered off. Your phone will appear powered off but sending location info.. The only sure way is either a TESTED faraday bag or leave it at home..

True..but stingrays aren’t going to gather that info routinely. SMS and user id and location is what they are normally looking for. They can still gather phone information no matter. The only time VPN comes into play is if you are using the web.. Encrypting the phone data protects intrusion. 1/2

Number 1.. VPN’s are irrelevant to Stingrays. VPN’s come in to play AFTER the call leaves the tower and hits the data backbone. Number 2- Land lines are routinely remotely monitored by law enforcement (See CALEA) … Buy a faraday bag and keep your phone in it when not in use.. Encrypt your phone..
