Due to the temporary closure of Langside Library for a very welcome major refurbishment, my advice surgeries at 6pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month will be moving to @finnsplacetx.org at Langside Church from 25th February. 2nd Tuesdays are still at Toryglen Community Hall
This year is the first time a Forum chair has been invited to report back directly to Ministers and UN diplomatic missions, a sign of their growing realisation that it’s local government that’s key to solving global issues. Delighted Glasgow got to pioneer this, as we do so many things!
Over 80 cities took part in the 2025 #ForumofMayors from member states in Europe, Africa, Asia & Latin America, with our discussions highlighting how much even very different cities have in common. We are all at the frontline of global challenges and all innovating to find the solutions
🪡It was my honour this week to chair the 5th UN #ForumofMayors in Geneva and report back our recommendations to member states for enhanced multilevel cooperation between international, national & local governments on the global housing crisis, gender equity, climate change & inclusive growth

Spent a happy hour or so at Glaswegians - Cranhill Arts, Alistair McCallum & Jane Carroll exhibition at Street Level photoworks gallery, Great talk from Alistair about the Glaswegians photographic project.Wee walk down memory lane for me.
The SNP motion set out basic facts for councillors to adhere to: asylum seekers & refugees aren’t illegal, they don’t commit more crimes, they don’t get priority treatment in housing queues. UK government policy is creating serious homelessness issues in cities but they could change that tomorrow
Last week all but 2 @GlasgowCC councillors committed to stand beside asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, who’ve been part of Glasgow’s communities for decades and call out the far right’s lies and scapegoating. I moved the @glasgowsnp.bsky.social motion glasgow.public-i.tv/core/portal/...

Christina McKelvie's partner, Keith Brown, along with her sons, Lewis and Jack, are deeply saddened to announce her passing this morning at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Christina McKelvie lit up every room she walked into. She was a warrior with a heart the size of Scotland and the best boss I ever had. Sharing her friendship was one of the great privileges of my life ❤️
Still seeing repetition of recent ill-informed & very inaccurate @heraldscotland coverage of @GlasgowCC finances. My colleague @Bell45, who knows his stuff, explained the realities of the numbers, the pressures & what we’re doing in Glasgow to manage them www.heraldscotland.com/politics/vie...

As the voices of climate denial get louder, I’ll always take climate action seriously - and do it in a way that creates new jobs, lowers our bills and unlocks huge economic opportunities for Scotland.

Here’s a wee summary of my speech at Glasgow Botanics today 👇

Here’s why climate action really matters

Great to hear @johnswinney.bsky.social at the Kibble Palace today reaffirm his personal, passionate commitment to climate action and rejecting climate denialism. As a global leader in the urban transition, Glasgow will be at the heart of Scotland’s delivery plans for net zero & climate resilience
@GlasgowCC environmental teams are out across Toryglen for a Week of Action, in addition to normal services, tackling stubborn local issues like flytipping and dog fouling. Find out more from our local Neighbourhood Coordinator, Christine, at the Glenmore Avenue shops on Thursday
Kelvingrove is perennially glam but it’s looking particularly fabulous tonight as Glasgow prepares to host @MichelinGuideUK #MICHELINStar25, a first for Scotland and a big vote of confidence in Glasgow’s brilliant food & drink scene as well as our event hosting skills
The aftermath of extreme weather events like Storm Eowyn show what public services & staff do that no one else can. Thanks to all @GlasgowCC staff who were working all hours, some of them in the teeth of the storm, to clear up & keep the city safe www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/2489257...
'Council have been flat out dealing with Storm Eowyn and its aftermath'
COUNCIL staff have been flat out in recent days dealing with Storm Eowyn and its aftermath.

The last time we had to close our schools because of extreme weather was during the Beast from the East in 2018. It’s a rare event and that shows how seriously we’re taking this warning. Please take it seriously too, avoid travel and stay safe
⚠️ Due to #StormÉowyn all our Schools and Council Nurseries will be closed tomorrow (Friday 24 January 2025).

Your school/nursery will provide further updates directly to you.

Please take care.

While Labour and the Tories chase Reform’s rhetoric, the SNP under my leadership will always focus on what matters: serving Scotland and staying true to our progressive values.

In short, delivering progress for Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
A Safe Consumption Facility is just the start of a story and we’ve all got a lot more work to do to turn around Scotland’s relationship with drugs. But in opening a service today that replaces criminalisation with care and stigma with dignity, we’ve taken a massive step forward.
It’s been a long & complex road to this moment, which has taken tenacity & courage on the part of many: dedicated professionals, people with lived experience of addiction & family members, & politicians especially Cllr Allan Casey, who has been tireless in working towards this day
The ethos & design of The Thistle demonstrate that harm reduction and recovery from addiction aren’t an either/or choice. Preventing the loss of lives to drugs is the fundamental first step, but The Thistle is also a doorway to sustainable recovery when people are ready to take it
