My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

I love hearing people talk about Cats (the musical, not the creatures) because it always sounds like an extended prank and they're all just making shit up as they go along.

"Preschool teacher who sings cute songs with little kids and is sad when kids are murdered" is truly the most batshit choice of personal nemesis.

Fellas, is it desperate virtue signaling to think genocide is bad?

A traitor to your people, to your family, and to mankind as a whole.

Really enjoying having no clue what you’re talking about. Please do not explain. (I feel like this isn’t the first post of yours I’ve said this about.)

Of fucking course they fucking dropped Marwan Barghouti from the prisoner release list.

Who is Marwan Barghouti? Marwan Barghouti is the most beloved politician in Palestine. He has been in Israeli prison for over 20 years and has continued to advocate for a two-state solution even behind bars.

The irony is, anyone who really genuinely cares about the vision of Israel as a safe haven for Jewish people understands that Israeli safety and Palestinian liberation go hand-in-hand. You cannot repeatedly attack and abuse your neighbors and then act surprised when your neighbors don't like you.

The guy who boasted on television about funding Hamas while also refusing to free Barghouti (who has taken a firm stance of "I strongly oppose the targeting of civilians inside Israel, our future neighbor" despite DECADES of torture)? That guy does not give a shit about Israeli safety.

Even people who are firmly pro-Palestinian are shocked when I tell them the number of Palestinians killed on October 7 itself.

I respect that stance but I also think that -- in the interests of realpolitik -- it needs to be stated, and restated, and restated again that the greatest (arguably only) existential threat Israel faces is its own refusal to treat Palestinians as equal human beings.

I'm going to be generous and assume that you're learning about this for the very first time and missing a lot of context, rather than that you're deliberately misrepresenting the issue (though, this is why it's a good idea to do real research!) At the very least read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marwan_...

I understand your anger but these violent revenge fantasies are utterly unhelpful.

No Palestinian is advocating for "driving out" 9.8 million people.

The solution is Palestinian freedom, statehood, and the right to return, not creating yet another wave of refugees.

It's because leaders like Barghouti — strong, moral, unflinching leaders who value liberation and peace, who show up to negotiations with dignity and goodwill, who condemn killing civilians but recognize the necessity of self-defense — are the right wing Israeli leadership's worst nightmare.

There is a reason the two leading parties of Palestine today are:

1) Fatah, which has completely disarmed and surrendered any real sovereignty and have been 'rewarded' with increasing settlements, checkpoints, bombed refugee camps, etc.

2) Hamas (which, lest we forget, was funded by Netanyahu)

This is a popular lie, along with "Israel has never invaded another nation" (lol) and "Palestinians have rejected every peace offer" (read an honest history of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.)

The truth is, Palestine has had many strong leaders. Israel killed or imprisoned all of them.

Yesterday, I read a book called The Triumph of Life: A Narrative Theology of Judaism. I read it because I genuinely love Jewish theology, but it turned out to mostly be vicious anti-Palestinian propaganda. One of the claims was that "no strong leader" has emerged in Palestine to advocate for peace.
