"Birds called from trees in a shady neighborhood where a bike path follows a bridge over the Upper Truckee River. On the other side of the water, however, the forest soundscape disappeared beneath the grinding, screeching noises of heavy machinery."

We are grateful to the Department of General Services and its contractors, and all the funding partners who helped us to acquire this property and remove the aging development to make way for future environmental restoration and public access and recreation improvements:
The Conservancy has removed two of the buildings from the site, and expects to demolish the third structure soon.
For the second stop of our tour yesterday with California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot, we stopped by the demolition of the former Motel 6 site on the Tahoe Conservancy’s Upper Truckee Marsh South Property in South Lake Tahoe.

Thanks to all our partners who participated in the tour. Support for this project comes from early action funding from Proposition 4, the Climate Bond.
The project features innovative technology by BurnBot, where remote-controlled masticators are rearranging hazardous fuels to reduce wildfire risk for the community.
The Conservancy received expedited approval for this project under Governor Newsom’s emergency proclamation on wildfire, and early action funding, allowing the work to begin a year ahead of schedule.
We were grateful to host Calif. Natural Resources Sec. Wade Crowfoot along with state, regional, and local partners yesterday for a tour of Conservancy projects. The first stop was a forestry project on forested state and federal public lands in S. Lake Tahoe. youtube.com/shorts/mm7UN...
