True it's def WAY harder to get into Smash than something like Fortnite. I just wonder if the casual/general audience understands that too? Like after years of seeing collabs and crossovers everywhere would the average guy see a big Smash reveal and be as excited as he might've been 7 years ago?

It's def a weird spot to be in considering it's been a big part of their appeal since Sonic and Snake in Brawl. I'm sure the devs have already been talking about all of this and what they could do next that'd feel new and exciting, but who knows what they'll do, if they even are making a new Smash

Yeah if anything the only third party characters with a chance to stay are the ones that already have history with Smash, like Sonic and Mega Man like you said, which I'd be fine with! I think most people just want more content to play through like a new Subspace as opposed to crossovers

I'd honestly love to see that yeah! They could make a Smash collection with the first three with online and a bunch of Quality of Life changes but you'd prob have more chances at winning the lottery than to ever see a Smash collection happen unfortunately 😭

I guess kids still love crossovers or else we wouldn't be seeing it happen so much, but more and more people talk about how tired they are of the Fortnitification of games and media as a whole. Lots of people rolling their eyes when something like MTG starts releasing Spongebob cards or whatever.

Sakurai's way of making games is so unique and interesting I get a lot more excited seeing him work on Kirby/Kid Icarus/etc, but never getting a Smash game again would be a big loss cause it's like, the only game like it? A lot of devs tried to make Smash-likes but no one truly got it right.

I remember Joker and Steve being BIG additions to Smash, and now 7ish years later both of them are showing up again in Crossworlds and I'm like "wait this used to be a lot more exciting"
Maybe it's cause they had unique movesets in Smash and weren't just skins, but still. It's not "new" anymore :x

I guess we'll see what happens cause Sakurai's working on Kirby Air Riders right now, so we prob won't see Smash for a few more years. The hype might still be as strong as it's always been, but following Ultimate they might step away from crossovers? They HAVE to have thought about this already.

LMAO that's EXACTLY what I was thinking about too like I was playing Sonic Crossworlds and Steve was just added and Joker's next and I was thinking like "wait this already happened in Smash with the exact same characters and it used to be a BIG deal years ago but now it just feels like the norm"

Yeah Smash has the whole "every character is unique and not just a skin on a skeleton with shared animations" but I wonder how the hype cycle would be affected cause Smash players will def be excited, but the casual outsider-type might react differently to trailers now that crossovers are so common?

Mhmhm cause whenever a fighting game adds crossover characters I never really feel like investing time into learning them is worthwhile cause they most likely won't show up in future games in the series, whereas I learned how to play Yoshi in 64 when I was 4 years old and he's still here to this day

Yeah I think cutting the roster bloat and focusing on refining the gameplay/changing up and modernizing old character movesets/adding more content like subspace and whatnot would be a lot more exciting than going "our roster has 100+ characters now"

That's what I thought at first too but then I realized Ultimate released in 2018 and got DLCs for a couple of years after that. I feel like the 2020s have exclusively been about crossovers so who knows if that double standard would still work in a post-Fortnite-poisoned world :x

I know Smash gives characters their own unique movesets and whatnot so it's more exciting than just slapping a skin into your live service game, but a big chunk of people don't really care about that and just wanna see their scrimblos together, which is happening in every other game, so idk.

Anyone ever think about how EVERYTHING is a crossover now so a new Smash Bros game prob won't have the same appeal that the series used to have on that front cause every character's already been in every other game for the past 7 years anyways?
