A wakeup post that I'm going to share with my family & friends who are lulled into thinking that midterms & 2028 election will happen.

Thank you so much, Ken.
I keep referring people back to this because it keeps coming up.

People ask me how long things this regime does will be allowed or tolerated and I keep asking “by whom”? Dad is not getting home later. The most charitable view of SCOTUS is that they have decided to be hands-off….

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

Yesterday, Illinois State Police arrested a protester dressed as Jesus, draped in American flag. When he did not walk, they picked him up and carried him.

We found the FDA quietly allowed banned overseas factories to send certain drugs to the U.S.

In a recent report, two senators criticized the agency for failing to notify Congress about the practice, calling it a “failure” to “protect public health.”
Senators Propose Sweeping Changes to Generic Drug Oversight
Citing a ProPublica investigation, lawmakers are calling on the FDA to conduct more drug testing and to alert hospitals and other purchasers when foreign manufacturers with safety failures are given a...

Shortly after Trump took office, DHS wiped from its website a policy regulating facial recognition use.

Face rec tools — like Clearview AI, which Illinois cops are barred from using, and Mobile Fortify — are now being used to support Trump’s deportation campaign.

Totally agree. My son works for a major chain.

Getting answers on benfits & referrals is crazy.

There is CONTINGENCY $ in the budget specifically to cover ALL of SNAP. The House Rs & Trump refuse to release it.

Why?

This will blow up on Rs.
Cuts to insurance & no SNAP $.
Dems want tge return of ACA healthcare subsidies; ACA enrollees w/o state provided subsidies are seeing >50% increases on tgeir premiums along with increased copays & higher deductibles.

In Albany Park, they fired pepper-spray balls to disperse an angry crowd and arrested two U.S. citizens. In Evanston, one repeatedly pointed his weapon at protesters while another knelt on a man’s back and punched him in the head.

Despite pleas from Gov. JB Pritzker to pause federal immigration enforcement operations while children celebrate Halloween, Border Patrol agents tore through Chicago and the suburbs.

ISP fired ~only a few~ rounds of pepper balls last night in Broadview and we really need folks who haven't experienced these to understand how irritating and noxious they are. I wasn't even in direct line of fire, but the powder lingers. This morning: throat/sinuses are still in awful shape.
Militarized local, state, & federal police used physical violence, chemical weapons, & the threat of dogs (as in, multiple - terrible) against people outside the Broadview ICE jail this afternoon. I still have a cough, sore throat, & breathing problems from it, even with a respirator mask.
Outside Chicago—

State police and sheriff's officers at Broadview detention center are out in riot gear.

A large Halloween demo is being prevented from doing a Jericho walk through the intersection.

Arrests of protesters ongoing. Troopers have also assaulted multiple reporters already.

🧵Just got some records back today on the NIPAS deployment to Broadview last Friday, including two interesting letters dated that very same day which shed some light on the decision-making behind the "Unified Command" deployment vis-à-vis the IL TRUST Act. See below ⬇️
Cops with NIPAS—Northern IL Police Alarm System—just arrived to switch out with state troopers.

This is our first time seeing them out here; they're cop "mutual aid," assorted officers from other suburban departments called up specifically to assist Broadview PD.

NIPAS themselves apparently directly sought guidance from AG Kwame Raoul on whether policing protests outside the detention center would be TRUST Act compliant. His office then gave them the green light.

More of that timeline in this thread:
There's much more in that NIPAS letter, but moving on: the other letter is the one ref'd by Kreis, sent to NIPAS' attorney by Christopher Wells of the ILAG office, where Wells confirms the actions of the Unified Command (and thus NIPAS) are "permissible under Illinois law, including the TRUST Act".

Re: the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System "Mobile Field Force."

These are cops from departments in the suburbs (ex: Oak Brook, Lake Forest, etc). When they're not at protests as part of this team, they're working regular beats. We don't see them in Chicago because CPD has no need for them.

Dear Canada,
We are deeply ashamed of our hateful, incoherent, graceless president and his spineless enablers. You don’t deserve this and we apologize.
BREAM: How do trade talks get back on with Canada?

BESSENT: We'll see. This is very serious. The prime minister of Ontario, who I imagine is smarting quite a bit from the Blue Jays loss, spent $75 million interfering in US public policy. A price has got to be paid for this.
