Books I’ve read in 2025, a thread 📚

Never read it as child, and I felt I would have bounced off it then. A grand read, particularly at a pub overlooking the farmlands of the downs.

Far from the Madding Crowd, By Thomas Hardy - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/f204...

This was the perfect summer read for me. A classic that really opened up a world of literature that I had never really crossed before.

My players will soon be facing, Grognardstank - The Multidimensional Fancervist!

One of my players IRL has to miss a month. This gives Grognardstank the open they need to break into the in game universe, and capture one of their TV heroes!

I'm going to try and do multiverse right. #dnd #ttrpg

But but…… Kipn could be a Polder Beastheart with Dire Chicken companion…
tgnewman.bsky.social
Ah sweet. That’s awesome. What’s something of yours that your the most proud made it into the game?
tgnewman.bsky.social
To clarify, running a Director Character because:

1. Only have 2 players and the Delian Tomb balance only goes down to 3.
2. Were trialing the game and it seemed like fun.

But yeah, playing both sides whilst they and I are learning is brain hard. I need my players back.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Whilst some of my players are on holiday, I’m taking 2 of them through @hellomcdm.bsky.social’s Delian Tomb for #DrawSteel

🤩 - The combat, the game feel! We love it.
😬 - I don’t know what it’s going to be like to go back to #Dnd
😵‍💫 - My head having to run the game and learn to play at the same time.

And where I’m at with the whole piece. Behind where I wanted to be, but glad to be chipping away at it still.
Unfinished painting of a Brew Brethren Monastic Beer Cellar. The Brew Brothers and Sisters enjoy pots of the good stuff, as light shines down from a open door above them. Two human Brethren stand arm in arm, toasting the drink. A dwarf with ruby crystalline hair, sniffs at his pot of ale, as an Orc Censor of the Brethren sharpens his sword, taking a moment with his friends before setting off on a quest for the Order.

Finished a @hellomcdm.bsky.social Draw Steel Dwarf, for my Brew Brethren painting. Nice to have a go at trying the gem ‘hair’ (?) and stone bodies of these unique people.

I also like how pleasantly round he is sat on his stool. Sipping his little pot of ale.

Owww neat. Can you share any spoilers.

As for water, I’ll need to look into that more. Do you have sources for this please?

As I say, Brexit and immigration are a whole other beast, and one that needs looking at by the whole nation.

Glad you love Alba. Lived there myself a few years ago, but been on the South since.
tgnewman.bsky.social
I’ll agree with you on the Brexit failure, as I don’t support it either.

As for energy, I did some quick research, and Scotland overmatch on how much on the way of renewables it exports to what it uses (and is paid for), but England of the Union produces more renewable GWh overall, as of 2024.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Doesn’t Scotland benefit financially from being in the Union? Regarding how much tax it puts into the Nation compared to how much it takes back for services? This is of course grand, as they help diversify and strengthen the whole of the UKs economy with their variety of exports.

Sistersong, By Lucy Holland - ⭐️⭐️

app.thestorygraph.com/books/ce7b34...

A fine piece of loosely historical, somewhat fantastical fiction. Following three Princesses, blessed with powers of the land, it’s a read that sadly wasn’t for me.

Think a Bishop etc wearing a special hat is how they justify it due to role. Though Church of England Bishops only wear them for special ceremonies, and not at all Aervices, Communions etc.

Interesting though aye? Hats, who knew.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Ah well then. Depends on the tour of hat. In the Church of England, traditional up unto 1942, women had to wear hats indoors Church, so as not to offend God.

Still in the British Military today, women have to wear hats in church. I’m not certain on the origins of this tradition, but know it true.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Hadn’t considered the railroad infrastructure point but a good one to add.

Would never have a word with someone on it, but it’s just interesting is all.

Still wouldn’t wear my own cap inside, but as you say, that’s culture.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Fair is fair is fair and thanks for the answer.

For us, it’s seen as quite rude. Hats are for the outdoors, and covering your head is a sign of your leaving, or I guess disinterest in staying for long.

Horses for Courses I guess.
tgnewman.bsky.social
Americans of Bluesky.

Is it normal for people to wear hats indoors? Like you’re at a bar or a restaurant and you keep your hats on?
