Hello fellow biological lifeforms.

You'll probably recognize me from a few videos such as:

bad ones.

I swear I'm still making new videos, but this is where I tend to ramble off about my hyperfixations, such as the #TalesOf franchise, or random #Linux shitposts.
Using Linux really ISN'T hard.

Maybe PD2 has just become one of the constants of the world, like war and politics and EverQuest.

And yet they still require mods to fix all those bugs left over since r141 lol.
I get the feeling that by the time Payday 5 comes out and then gets canceled after its year-one roadmap, there will be a fourth skeleton crew still keeping Payday 2 afloat even after its life cycle was supposedly *actually* done for realsies pinky swear this time
(1942, 2142, BF2/Modern Combat, Bad Company 1, Bad Company 2, Heroes/whatever the F2P one was, BF3, BF4, Hardline, BF1, BFV, 2042, 6)
inb4 you realize that Battlefield 6 is the 12th game in the franchise
But then again I'm basically just describing Retroarch's settings priority hierarchy lol.

I'm such a fucking dork.
Honestly most of my usability qualms aren't *really* EmuDeck's fault, but about SRM and just the nature of Steam's interface.
If Steam(OS or Client) could bulk-set perf profiles for a bunch of games, like per-collection with per-game overrides, that would be SUPER helpful.
I've also had to do quite a bit of manual tinkering.
Sega Model 2 wasn't even working due to relying on some really outdated nonsense, so I had to fix that myself (and hopefully that gets merged soon?).

But EmuDeck really is just a glorified set of scripts gluing everything together, huh.
So uh
EmuDeck's been very... Interesting? Not always for the right reasons?
I appreciate what it does, but a lot of its defaults aren't my thing, and Steam ROM Manager is veeeery tedious to deal with to get even parts of my library in Steam...

I dread adding the Libretro stuff in. Ugh.
Oh yeah, the only reason I did that was for God Eater. It's basically a file access benchmark game of sorts because of how unoptimized the ports (for 1&2) are.

It's also kinda really good? For a bootleg Monster Hunter-like anyways. And it has the most Go Shiina ass OST and it's so jarring but aaaaa
It would be great for a desktop where you're more likely to want to use non-flatpak apps or modules for other hardware, but for my Steam Deck I'm very hesitant to wanna mess with the base image more than is absolutely necessary.

Maybe when I get an SSD upgrade, I'll give it a try? Iunno.
I gueeeeess this is the kind of thing Bazzite would be better for, because packages can be layered over the base image? And in that case, it would have a kernel version that actually has ntsync builtin, so I'm struggling to think of any other practical reasons that makes it useful for a portable...
I can appreciate stock SteamOS allowing me to (at least temporarily) install some out-of-this-kernel-version modules, namely ntsync without needing to change distro entirely.
But with how, uh... Cludgy the process is after unlocking, clearly it wasn't made to be used this way exactly.
I've said something like this before, but Windows only gives the illusion of choice - because any update could easily just undo whatever creative hacks people come up with AND shove more bullshit in your face that you never asked for.

It's a goddamn sand castle. Is that what people want these days?
inb4 someone brings up Windows distros like Tiny11 or Ameliorated or some such:

Sure, opt for the blatently pirated hacks that can't take updates or breaks other expected dependencies so hard that SETTING UP WINE FROM SCRATCH IS EASIER.
Yeah sorry, but I'm not buying something 2x-3x the price just to not fucking own the thing I bought, because Bill Michaelsoft is gonna keep doing dumbass shit with the underlying system.

If the cost of ownership is occasionally needing to click a couple of boxes to fix something, I'll take it.
It really does show that the only thing keeping people tethered to that ecosystem is the illusion of compatibility.

Though that's becoming less of a real point when Linux runs *mostly* everything already, if the remaining developers weren't being vindictive about it. 🤷‍♀️
I'll admit it's REALLY funny hearing people cite Windows as a pro over SteamOS for compatibility (even when that's like, 5% of games) while ignoring the complete dumpster fire of a UX it has at a time that people are revolting over having to upgrade to Wendies 11.
I've already ordered a couple of bits to mod the d-pad board that'll *supposedly* improve the feel?

The ideal would be a Vita d-pad, but not sure if that's what I'll be getting as a result. Still, anything to reduce the mushiness and travel would be a significant improvement.
I have a lot of thoughts about the Steam Deck after a week of setting up emula--I mean playing games.
But the one at the forefront is how painfully mid its d-pad is. It does not do the retro games justice, despite having otherwise very responsive, low-latency, and comfortable controls.
It's all this publisher-owned networks cross-storefront verification bullshit that makes PC gaming a headache EVEN WHEN THE GAME IS FROM 2008 and DOESN'T HAVE ITS ONLINE MATCHMAKING ANYMORE
R* support wasn't as combative as I'd thought they would be (prolly because I sent screenies of my Steam purchase history in the initial ticket), so I was able to get GTAIV to work again last night.

BUT
I bought the fucking game on Steam, I shouldn't NEED to verify with some other bullshit.
So I guess I don't get to know how GTAIV works on Deck and will have to spend who-knows-how-long contacting support just to relink an account to a service I literally never asked to be attached to a game that doesn't even have its original online services available anymore.

:<
Also, unrelated: whoever decided at Rockstar that their shitty Game Launcher should lock out my access to a game I bought over ten years ago because they locked it to a dead email address with no choice to easily change AND make their support links redirect to nothing should get run over by a truck.
Sooooo I may or may not have stayed up a bit longer than I'd have liked last night.
Anyways, today was mostly just putzing around. Tomorrow will be more putzing, but hopefully the mildly more productive kind? I at least wanna get saves syncing across, which means setting up Syncthing, and then finish getting my emulation stuff sorted.
