The box art for Beyond Shadowgate [2024] was drawn by the late, great Stephen Peringer.

He was the artist who gave us the iconic box art for the NES ports of Shadowgate and Deja Vu, among MANY other game covers.

He sadly passed away last year, but his legacy lives on through his legenday art.

Truly a wonderful person to work with. He understood the concept of the game immediately and produced a lovely piece of artwork. In a way, his art tells the story of the game, and fans who completed the adventure may understand what I mean by that.

I got to meet Stephen virtually when we made the sequel to Shadowgate, Beyond Shadowgate. The team was insistent that we reach out to him and he graciously agreed to do our box art. We were told it was the last game piece he finished. He was wonderful to work with and an iconic game box artist.

But perhaps a good translator will be able to capture my designs while including some aspects of the famous Kemco stylistic choices? Either way, I’m very happy Japanese players will be able to play our game, and I hope everyone enjoys beyond Shadowgate.

This will be interesting - I am not a Japanese speaker. I wrote the game such that the language was very precise to express character personalities, hints, and hidden stories for the multiple endings. Writing in the silly Kemco style would change the nature of the game.
