Blue: No. It's alive.

Green turns to look at Blue, whose eyes are still on the moth.
Green: It's what?
Blue: It sits in a different spot every morning.

Both of the foxes return to looking up at the moth.
Green: Should we do something about it?

Now Blue turns to look at Green, who keeps staring at the moth.
Blue: Make it pay rent?
Green: I think it flinched.

Perhaps I can be in Hookland, just for one night. Though in the morning I will be sensible as a proper grownup should and say it was just a dream. But for one good night in Hookland, I can dance for my friends that danced for me.

If I were in Hookland, instead of saying goodbye, I would try to sing the Hum, or at least harmonize as best as I can with it, one last time. And for that moment, I would be a child again, with a child's hope, and a child's dream, and a child's knowing that it can get better.

If I were in Hookland, I would tell the pylon that I can't pay as much attention to it anymore when I'm on the road because I have to drive as some grownups do, but sometimes I still feel the Hum on the back of my neck when driving long nights like an old friend's half-remembered song.

If I were in Hookland, I would thank the pylon for being my friend on all those interstate journeys when I had to be silent in the back seat and watch the Hum make the transmission lines swing for lack of wind.

If I were in #Hookland, I would go to the nearest pylon and tell it of all that has happened to me since I grew up, since I became too sensible to recognize the towering pylons somehow standing sentinel and yet running freely as friends.

Also, this was the view out of my living room window this morning before I took part in my lovely friend Caimh McDonnell's online book launch. Too pretty not to share.

You're looking at a photograph straight over a green valley that's got misty puffs of clouds travelling leisurely through it, not doing a very good job of hiding a whole lot of mostly single story mainly white bungalows below. On the hill directly in the picture's eyeline is a whole lot of trees that are hiding quite a large number of sheep and their spring lambs. Since my window was open when I took this picture, imagine the faint bleating of lambs drifting across the valley and a whole lot of bird song. An absolutely delightful cacophony. The sky overhead is a pale morning blue with pearly sunrise clouds hovering low down in the background. Looking at this picture it's a little hard to believe that I live in the middle of a city, but that's New Zealand for you. Also, since the window is open, you'd also be able to hear the drifting voices of a men's walking group passing by, gossiping up a storm and generally having a good catch up. And while you're at it, picture the daffy person taking this picture, wearing a dressing gown, leaning out of their window, frankly looking like a bit of a fright because they spotted the view while half way through doing their makeup for a friend's online book launch. This picture promises a good day. (Which quite frankly is how it's all turning out.)

It would be easy to point at one specific thing and say "This was the last straw", but that would be a lie and would do more damage than good.

Y'all need to think about how you treat people that offer a service, be it for pay, feels, or trade.

We are not automatons.

I know why. And I'm furious. Not at myself. I'm furious because the cause is out of my control and the only way to protect myself is to shut it down.
