When my kids were little, we shopped at Costco. They had money tubes on the tills. My son who was little, asked me if the the tubes were how how the people working the cash registers got their hot dogs from the food concession? And I said, yes... because that's the world I wanted him to believe in.

Harvest Dust at Dusk...
Topsoil blows across Highway 22 (The Cowboy Trail) in central Alberta at dusk. Two combines out of frame were kicking up soil as they took a crop off a field, next to the road.

Rorschach Test...
Mountains in reflection are like a kind of Rorschach test. I just see calmness now. When I was a kid, the mountains made me feel uneasy, anxious. They were so big. They represented time. I understand time more now. I'm less afraid of it.

Somehow I've become older and, suddenly, I understand why I've been enjoying the fifties more than I'd enjoyed the forties. It's the difference between August and October. There's just a crisper sparkle in autumn.
