Pine needles, moss, mushrooms, mist. A narrator that speaks directly to the reader addressing them as “we”. Writing, setting, and well developed characters all make for a creepy and entertaining October read. Solid.

Just finished the work of historical fiction by Benjamín Labatut. Loved the insight into some of the great minds of the early 20th century.

When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamín Labatut.
I have not. Do you recommend it?
A circus comes to town hawking a display of a stuffed whale. Also in the company was a “prince” who stands 2 feet tall and sports 3 eyes. Several mistake the “prince” as prophetic. Hilarity and tragedy ensues.

About two thirds through. Just so Pynchonesque at this point. Surreal. Perfect.
One of my favorite authors of all time! Thomas Pynchon’s Shadow Ticket. Loving it!
"Will you go to bed now? If I set the mood organ to a 670 setting?"
"What does that bring about?" he asked.
"Long deserved peace," Iran said.

Starting the week with Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Mircea Cărtărescu’s Solenoid. Starts as a memoir, and morphs into a fantastical absurdist exploration of the man’s life in Bucharest. Stunning writing throughout. Read this. Worth it. Trust me.

Yes. Have a few queued up for the near future.
Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu. A very deep and introspective memoir of a hopeful poet, his dreams destroyed by the powers that judge talent, to live life as a school teacher. Amazing.
Solenoid by Mircea Cartarescu. This book is absolutely fascinating. Loving it.
Well then, it goes on the list! Thanks!
New author for me. Loved the novel. Great usage of making the reader doubt reality again and again. Leaves you guessing as to what really is.

A new author for me. Philip K. Dick’s Ubik.
The Hemingway Library Collection read continues with The Old Man and the Sea. As a kid I picked this book to write a report due to the small size of it. As an old man, I deeply appreciate the book. Loved it.

Continuing my Hemingway revisit with For Whom the Bell Tolls.
The Hemingway revisit continues. A Farewell to Arms shows his fully developed minimalist tip of the iceberg style. A pleasure to reread as an old man.
