For those who don’t know me; I’m Maria Montaño, former Comms director for the city of Pittsburgh, the first trans person to serve as the spox. Helped ensure trans people are protected at work and in housing, and worked to help organize workers across PA. Also named best thirst trap in PGH.

The last couple of years have transformed me in ways I never could’ve imagined. I’ve grown, rebuilt, and found new ways to serve. It’s work that challenges me every day and reminds me what public service is all about: showing up for people with honesty and compassion.

Statement from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.
We must now start calling this what it is: Trump's Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state's military troops.
I call on Governor Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate. There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation.
The brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props. This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.

I don't recall them being so upset at the existence of trans people in pop culture when we were only portrayed as punchlines and monsters, and their favorite comedians don't know how to shut up about us. What's changed is suddenly they're hearing the stories we want to tell

Surreal moment for America. Needless to say, if the normal police ever pulled something like this — pulling every single person out of an apartment building and handcuffing them to run warrant checks — they would be sued into oblivion.

Yet ICE is going to get away with it entirely.

"It was scary, because I had never had a gun in my face," Fisher said. "They asked my name and my date of birth and asked me, did I have any warrants? And I told them, 'No, 'Ididn't."
Fisher said she was handcuffed before being released around 3 a.m., and she was told that if anyone had any kind of warrant out for them, even if it was unrelated to immigration, they would not be released.
