After our Covid shots, we walked to an Indian restaurant in the tourist area for lunch. Our samosas were served with an elaborate carrot flower decoration on the plate. Mom and I both ate part of it before the waiter came over to say “erm, that wasn’t for eating.” 😬

It’s done! He even cut the cabinet kick-plate to fit better! I’ve labeled the buttons in English so mom can use it, just like I did with the washing machine, so now we are ready to rock and roll. My labels aren’t pretty, but they are practical.

New white dishwasher installed in a kitchen with warm wood cabinets, topped with moss green tiles and backsplash. The buttons have hand-written English language label stickers affixed on the screen.

So the shut off valve was behind the back of the cabinet. In order to access it, I had to break the board at the back and yank it out. Maybe there was a way to delicately remove it, but I sure couldn’t figure it out. Now that it’s gone, we can see what we’ve got to work with.

Sigh. Welp. The new dishwasher arrived, but we can’t take the old one out because we can’t find the shut off for the kitchen sink. This should not be so hard, but it is. I think the people who installed these cabinets thought no one would ever need to change or update anything ever. 🤬

Mona got about five little chunks of chicken and now she is staring us both down with the sad eyes.

Mom caved and gave her some. She licked off the onion and spices first so it was just the chicken.

Mona staring down my mother, hoping for a bit of her chicken. Mom sits at the kitchen table picking out a piece of chicken to give to the clearly starving Scottish terrier at her feet.

Mom puts the chicken chunk in Mona’s bowl. There will never be enough for her.

I made chicken perloo tonight for dinner using this recipe. www.southernliving.com/one-pot-chic... Sort of. I used chicken breasts instead of a whole chicken. And I did the rice in the rice cooker and then stirred it into the rest. And I kept everything on the stovetop instead of using our oven. 😋

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

My broken toe is nearly completely healed, and I am mostly back to normal again with only very rare slight discomfort when stepping wrong. As long as I’m careful, I’m fine.

Okay. I feel better now. I feel lucky and more grounded now.

- We’ve really enjoyed watching The Reluctant Tourist with Eugene Levy. It’s honestly given me hope in humanity on difficult days.

Tomorrow, I’m making a quiche for breakfast, and dinner is a one-pot chicken perloo.

- members of our family did the same. We were really expecting to have the ashes here, but we’ve accepted the way this has to be. It’s not what we wanted, but it’s what we have to do. It’s the most difficult thing we’ve had to face in coming here.
