@ben w/ some of the AI generated alt text I've seen from the federated Threads images, I'm not even sure the tech is not bad.

Though I imagine if they're generating alt text for every image on their platform they're not going to want to waste money on the best models out there.

All the time that I spend working on specifications and helping people solve problems and contributing to open-source is virtually unpaid.

If I don't earn enough, I could even loose my ability to stay in Germany, where I've lived for the past decade (yay freelance visas)

So you might know my work, to support me doing that I need about €60-70k per year.

Year to date, I've received €17,150 in financial support from the community, and €11,400 from NLNet grants. So a total of €28,550.

Add in whatever freelance work I've been able to pick up and it maybe bumps to €36k

I think Mastodon's proposal for starter packs is a significant positive evolution of the way Bluesky rolled them out. I wound up on a bunch of packs there and it was…not a great thing for my specific brain and purpose.
