anger, confusion and sadness. I had a really hard time writing this. I can't even put into words how bad I felt. Im leaving the rest of the manga for another day. Fuck this shit. I spent almost 5 hours writing this godforsaken thread and it’s not even good, but this chapter is worse, so who cares?
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
so why did the writer ever thought this was a good idea? The only thing this chapter kinda does is foreshadow the reveal of Yuu’s brother in the 3 last panels, but they’re almost throwaway lines. I really hated reading this chapter; the two times I read it, it gave me this visceral reaction of +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
that plot was probably dropped right as it is introduced because there wouldn’t be any space to actually convert into something worth bringing over, or probably they couldn't make drastic changes that alter the plot significantly because the manga is meant to follow almost bit by bit of the anime
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Yuu’s reading to “think it’s enough if his mother finds her own happiness” is meaningless, you didn’t give anything here to reflect, again is two pages, about something he hasn’t even thought about (that I can remember) for the entire series, and arguably years in the canon
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
we don’t even see her daughter speak, her also nameless daughter, whom never knew her older brother and can never ever meet her oldest sister, not only you could, you should, you need to write it, that’s the kind of point that heavily influences a story, you can’t half ass it like they did here
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
if she ever wanted to truly reconnect, I judged her decision early in a joking manner, but the manga never gave me a single chance to understand, sympathize or empathize with her because all we see of her is a few sentences, a few shots at best,
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
it’s something really heavy for anyone to deal with, let alone a teenager, he barely healed, he almost became a drug addict as a result of his torment, you could write an entire arc maybe a multitude of arcs about this family, about the mother, why she took the decisions she did, +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
or maybe an arc that show how these individuals learnt to deal with their pains and their traumas and how they’re moving forward in life despite it, let’s think about the pressure put on Yuu, forced to take care of everything at such young age and losing the people of his family twice,
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
like there are so many possibilities for the plot to go here maybe they could’ve started living together again and it would explore the difficulties brought by finding yourself living with people you never knew but who are family and the new connections that could arise
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
The Otosaka family’s mom experienced the worst or one of the worst possible things that can happen to a human being, and the effect this has on the story is… negligible, so why did they even felt the need to add it? it leaves me dumbfounded how much nothing is achieved with this story
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
difficult to talk about subject and going nowhere with it and as bonus almost making me nauseous. I said it a few times, and I’ll say it again. The worst problem about Charlotte is its wasted potential; it could have been way more than it actually is, and this is the worst example of it ever.
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Jesus fucking Christ. The story just moves along adapting the anime, after this, with the Zhiend show, this chapter is a futile exercise in writing where it would have been way better if they just kept the idol comedy shenanigans from the anime instead of introducing this really heavy +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
and emotional connection with both characters, is dead, and they don't talk about it; they don't even mention it actually at all. Yuu, right after losing a sister tragically, finds out he has another one he never met or even knew existed, and they don’t even care to point this out!?
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
for the 1st time, I, after getting really shocked with the revelation, actually thought this could be a really good point to develop Yuu even further, especially after Ayumi’s death, which doesn’t even get acknowledged here, by the way. Ayumi, the little sister and daughter, who shares a blood +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
I genuinely wanna know, what did they want to achieve? To start, what happened to their parents is pretty inconsequential to the story to begin with; we didn’t exactly need to have any explanation. However, one existing could actually improve the story. When seeing this very dubious piece of art +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
That’s so stupid; it's just not a good explanation, but my problem with it is that it probably could have been way better, and they didn't even try to build anything here. This plot point is raised and dropped all in this one chapter, so why did it even need to exist? Why did they write this?
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
which, yeah, is hard taking care of 3 kids as a single mother, but again, she does not say that; she said that she was giving it to the one who needed it most. I’m sorry, but is your love finite or something? You could have no problem love that child along with the previous two, no?
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Uh… um… that makes no sense? Like, am I being insensitive or missing something? Sure, you loved that child because no one else would, but why did you leave Yuu and Ayumi? Didn’t these children, who’re also her children btw, need love too? She does not say that she could only take care of one child +
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Yuu explains to Nao what was discussed, saying that “no one else would have cared for that child, so she wanted to be someone who did”, and Yuu’s mom said, “in a world where loving fairly is unforgivable, I took it upon myself to be the one to love the one who needed it most.”
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Yuu’s mom(who btw doesn’t even get a name here)sees her son; there’s a bit of crying which could have been an emotional scene, but it’s so sudden I was just baffled all the way, and then it immediately cuts to after the talk, so if you were actually sad it probably took you right off the experience.
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
with the delicacy of a flying kick to the head, she leaves the room leaving them alone, does not explain shit and closes the door. Yuu and his mom then proceed to have a conversation in which, and I can’t stress this enough, lasts two pages. TWO PAGES. They talk to each other for two pages.
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
with their father-in-law, with them never seeing each other again. Yuu, obviously confused and conflicted, questions why he and Ayumi didn't stay together with their mom. Tomori, then by magic, I guess, finds his mother and reunites the two for a conversation in the most Nao Tomori way possible
tomoriknokoni.bsky.social
Nao calls Yuu alone in the student council room and reveals to him that his mother was a victim of rape and became pregnant from it; she wasn’t able to get an abortion; his abhorrent father, upon discovering it, divorced her; she was abandoned by her abhorrent parents, so she left him and Ayumi +

OH. MY. GOD. I started reading the Charlotte manga again and went back to a previous chapter to refresh the events, and I immediately got confronted with the worst and most pointless chapter of manga I've ever read, a chapter so bad I forgot it existed. Chapter 32. Trigger Warning: Sexual Assault.
