Devil and AJ September 2017. Outlived them both and not too many retired greyhounds available nowadays which is just fine with me. I had retired race dogs for 39 years and 3 months.
Aster still blooming and bumblebees still buzzing
Yes AJ ran in about 30 races. Did ok too. 3 wins 5 second place. I never would have believed it till I looked up his record cuz he had terrible form bouncing all around and some airway issue that made him whistle.
That's the bane of greyhounds. Bone cancer. That's what got 5 of my 12. At least it usually waits until they're older. AJ was 9 but the others were 10 or 11.
A sore leg on a senior dog is a scary thing.
Comet and Enzo are gorgeous ❤️‼️
He had bone cancer and the evening of Oct 27 broke his right front leg which put a end to that. As I was leading him back in one of the coyotes sang a mournful song.
In summer 23 a couple coyotes pushed AJs buttons almost every night cuz they could. Start to get dark, a little noise and he charged out on the warpath running along the fenceline barking like no other greyhound.
Yes. I've always taken dogs with prey drive. And they've caught countless chipmunks and red squirrels and a few birds. The birds got ate and some of the others too leaving only a bit of tail.

There's another one involving some hounds and a boar that I might not post. Rabbits are the most dangerous game I'd go after with my dogs. We've had Mexican standoffs with racoons and that was scary to break up thankfully with no injuries.

Delightful little Pickle found his forever home via the Lurcher SOS family a while ago, but due to a change in family circumstances he needs a new 🏡 . He is a wonderful, affectionate dog who would thrive with another friendly dog to play with. Could you be his family? ❤️ 🐾
You ought to know not to stand by the window
Someone might see you up there
So ten minutes later I found one from a coyote who's been eating acorns. No pictures coming. We've had much excitement with coyotes over the years. I have some Purina One dry food for the local gang of crows. Wonder what happens to a bowl of it overnight?
Not gonna block them. If anything from them shows up in my feed it will be a target of opportunity.
Dunno what NY law says but in Maine you're allowed more plants with a medical card.
I breed my plants and let them get pretty seedy which turns them into hemp.
Don't mind cleaning out seeds. Grew up smoking seedy Mex and Columbian.
And I say seedy bud makes better hash than seedless. No proof.
I've been without a greyhound for 6 months but still have a daily ritual of walking around the yard with a shovel looking for 'deposits'
I keep a stash of $1 bills and they are always a big hit. Probably less expensive than candy nowadays too.

We have a lot of flying squirrels in Maine. Strictly nocturnal but I saw one once that lived in a old shack when I went in and disturbed him. Smaller than a gray squirrel but similar but for the wing membrane between front & back legs.
My greyhound Devil tried to bite a porcupine once. It was a catastrophe. He had a serious attitude afterwards. There's been a few others over the decades.
All my greyhounds had one encounter with a skunk. Future interactions were comical. A little subdued bark followed by skunk shuffling off.
This English art is cool but I'm going to find some Roman greyhound art and post that too.
