It's worth noting that Coskun was only fined about £300 for disorderly behaviour, and what he actually did was set fire to a Quran and then yell islamophobic abuse at people whilst waving it at them, which is almost certainly why he actually got the fine. This is wholly vice signalling.

Shadow Justice Secretary has made a symbolic gesture of support for Quran burning, both in law & apparently in practice too

Judge Jeannette Vargas said the lyrics in Lamar’s Not Like Us, which refers to Drake as a “certified paedophile”, were a matter of opinion, which could not be “actionable defamation”.

That is fair, I think I might just have been spoiled by how good Euro-Country and Man's Best Friend have been that my reaction was "really? This is the biggest star right now?"

Life of Ophelia, the one I've heard most, is a mess
tpgroberts.bsky.social
I admit, I haven't sat down on gone through the whole thing, but the bits I've heard definitely fall into the former camp

Appreciating there's a reason it's their big hit, but god, Nothing Matters is really excellent, properly brutally raw.

Having spent months with Spotify slipping them into my shuffle constantly it's finally happened, I'm on board with The Last Dinner Party

I appreciate this is not a popular take, but god, the new Taylor Swift album is awful

The woman weeping, Yvonne, was played by Madeleine Lebeau who was a refugee and was genuinely brought to tears

I would put a fiver on him having played Mafia or Resistance, which is half the trick
tpgroberts.bsky.social
Same with the marselleise scene, actual refugees in the cast

Just a poor corrupt official

Rewatching it on the flight back, and utterly struck by how funny it is as well?
tpgroberts.bsky.social
It's also just very funny?

"There are certain parts of New York I'd advise you not to invade?"

"I was misinformed."

"Your winnings sir."

"Are my eyes brown?"

There's layers and layers, the original love story itself culminating in Rick's sacrifice, the later reading of whether Ilsa actually ever means anything with Rick, the film itself as a metaphor for American involvement in the war...

I've made a lot of jokes about it, having just been there, but God Casablanca is a great film.

Marvellous column by @rafaelbehr.bsky.social that absolutely nails Kemi Badenoch - who clearly very deeply believes that the mere act of 'well, I'm saying it' means that something must be thoughtful, even if it is just a more innumerate and caustic echo of Nigel Farage:
Badenoch’s ‘thoughtful Conservatism’ turns out to be just the slower road to Faragism | Rafael Behr
The Tory leader’s intellectual meanderings have shrunk her party into little more than a holding pen for future Reform party candidates, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

Why are you just hovering in the aisle? If you must insist on getting up, at least then move back and let others retrieve their baggage.
