The Knockers - ancient earth spirits of #Cornish #folklore that live underground. They warn miners of danger with knocking noises. Superstitious Cornish miners to this day appease the knockers by throwing the knob of their pasties to them.
As a simple, naive barrister of 40+ years I can be easily confused.

If you have enough evidence to fire missiles to kill the crew of a civilian boat then I would think that you must have enough evidence to prosecute any survivors in a criminal court for a serious crime rather than release them.

History as Physics

A "great power" (GP) is subject to the 3rd law of thermodynamics (closed systems will trend towards entropy)

So to survive a GP must trade equitably with "lesser powers"(LPs). A GP that attempts isolation or to destroy the economies of LPs *will* collapse

Spare a thought for that lone English settler surrounded on all sides by primitive Cornish natives with their outlandish food, impossible to pronounce place names and freakish ancient language and customs.
The vivid colours of autumn are the passing summer's farewell gift.

Did I read that somewhere? If not then I feel that I should have done.

Starmer clearly believes that asylum/migration has traction in the minds of the public.

Counter it by explaining what benefit entitlements they have and how they are limited but also shine light on other Reform UK Ltd "ideas" which would appal voters:

The NHS and health
Workers rights
Etc

Sigh...
When I look at the world today — misogyny, hatred and extremism everywhere — the novella "The Screwfly Solution" springs instantly to mind.

FFS, let us "be excellent to each other" for the sake of the continued existence of humanity.

NGC7000 The North American Nebula, or as I prefer to call it: The Greater Canadian Nebula.
Disclosure: I really don't give bramm kath* about golf.

However, the behaviour of some of the audience at the Ryder Cup matches speaks volumes about the USA of today. It foreshadows the next Olympics and likely Jesse Owens moments.

*An expression based upon Medieval Cornish literary usage.
Although you might wish to review the authorities on what constitutes criminal damage.
Scientists have confirmed that mothers of autistic children ALL breathed oxygen during their pregnancy. Women are now advised that they should not inhale after a positive pregnancy test.
Nobody ever lost an election by overestimating the stupidity of the voting public.
Someone has to ask the obvious question: If #Gollum didn't want his name on the deeds for "obvious" security reasons why did he announce to the world that *he* had just exchanged contracts on the purchase?

In the Land of the Free #Trumpania the head of state announced on TV that a suspect had been arrested for a crime, gave details of the arrest, expressed a view of guilt and called for the death penalty.

In the UK we prefer a jury to hear evidence and reach a verdict without external influences.
Alas, the pragmatic reason that the courts do not impose lifetime driving bans is the knowledge that they would be driving in defiance of the ban and uninsured.
Has he made any financial claims for the "costs" of a constituency home?

Was the transaction merely an effective vehicle for tax evasion?
#Gollum has unequivocally described it as his house for his use as and when he wishes. So:

Was the correct Stamp Duty paid?

Is he liable for Income Tax on the benefit he receives staying (presumably) rent free?

He has made it clear that his partner is the *legal* owner of the property but #Gollum is the *beneficial* owner. This suggests that #Gollum considers that he has an equitable interest in the house.

It would need the expertise of someone like @danneidle.bsky.social to elucidate the position.
