The Prey

#kcd #kcd2 #kingdomcome #kingdomcomedeliverance2 #hansry #henryofskalitz #hanscapon #art #illustration #fanart
A painting of Hans on horseback riding in a forest, with Henry following him on foot. In the foreground are Hans' hunting dogs, running to catch a hare and unaware of the other hare behind them. In the background, among the trees, runs a deer too, but only Henry seems to have noticed it. Flowers pepper the ground beneath everyone's feet and they are drawn in a style reminiscent of medieval tapestries. The scene is lit by a warm dappled light. His face lit by the sun, Hans smiles with incandescent joy.

My first KCD embroidery - about 300 hours of love <3

[ #kcd #kcd2 #kingdomcome #kingdomcomedeliverance2 #henryofskalitz #embroidery #fiberarts ]
A hand embroidered piece with a medieval style window with Henry from KCD standing in the middle in flowers with a backdrop of a field and Trosky castle. A sun is emblazzed behind him in gold thread. He's holding a sword that comes out of frame. There is a blue couched thread detailing around the outside and a shield of Liepa and Kobyla. on each side. Pebbles rears up on the left side with a saddle and Mutt is on the right chasing a bird (a motif for Hans). Embroidered on the bottom to look like an inscribed scroll are the words audentes fortuna iuvat from the game. A close up from the bottom left of the embroidery featuring Pebbles and the "audentes fortuna" showing in detail the couched threads and the short and long stitches of Pebbles, the satin stitches around the border and the scroll with inscription. A close up on the right with Mutt and the bird, both done in long and short stitch.

That makes sense! The texture+feel you get with traditional tools is great, but it’s nice to have those digital tools to finish things up. Do you use a scanner in your process btw? I’m actually amazed at the clarity and contrast of the lines

Aw, ahah, I feel honoured!

Truth be told, my art looked awfully stiff up until a couple of years ago, so hearing that now people like the dynamism in it just makes my heart melt ☺️

Movement is such a challenge to capture in still mediums but thinking of a drawing like a window into a longer moment/sequence has helped me!

Aw I totally get that! I feel like that with tumblr, actually — I kind of forget I’m on there, sometimes. But you totally should post them! It would be lovely to see your embroideries here too 😊

That makes me so happy to hear!! Drawing in black and white is actually my favourite since I can concentrate more on the line work and the movement behind each stroke 💫

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun doing these; I’m so happy you like them 😊 and it’s great to see you here lara!

That’s great! I’ve actually been wondering for a while if you’ve been doing the oc-tober sketches traditionally or digitally, and I’m glad to have that curiosity of mine satisfied now, ahah

Really love the movement in the brush/ink strokes in this one — they’re so dynamic!

Glad to hear that, Alex! ☺️

Having hand pain these past few months gave me an opportunity to have a think about my art vs just making it, so I spent some time bringing together a personal essay I wrote on some of the struggles I experienced last year with making art in general. Looking forward to sharing it soon!

I love the feeling of these – they're so delicate and sombre

Definitely agree with needing some time before posting a big piece—posting it immediately makes everything feel raw, if that makes sense. I have a couple of sketches lined up before I go about posting something bigger and I think this gave me the kick I needed to share them. Thanks for the insight!

Re: not going into hermit mode, that makes a lot of sense! I imagine it's easier to keep up sharing regularly vs getting back into it after a long time. Even if the main purpose of your acc is to be a digital sketchbook, I'm really happy you share your stuff with us online; it's always great to see☺️

That warms my heart to hear! Thank you for telling me 💛

I try my best to ignore the feeling, but after going into hermit mode and doing just art for long periods of time it’s like I forget how to present it to others. Is there anything you do in specific to help you get through feeling this way?

The pieces to post exist, but the song and dance of sharing them are one I forget the rhythm of so quickly if I don’t do it consistently.

Props to everyone who manages to share their work regularly; hopefully I will learn these arcane arts too one day 🙇

Sometimes when I don’t post for so long I feel the need to reacclimatise myself to posting by posting smaller, inconsequential things, because posting art starts to feel daunting after a lot of inactivity.

The solution I feel is posting sketches regularly, really, but I always seem to forget.

At the same time, the sheer amount of work complicated compositions require can be intimidating… but if I break it down mentally section by section (‘today I’ll work on X; tomorrow I’ll work on Y’) it feels much more manageable 🙂
tsinavar.bsky.social
I really get that! I find that when a piece has a lot of different elements I have to solve/figure out or that are interesting to render, I’m kept more engaged and it’s easier for me to stick with it for longer, since it feels like I’m doing something new when I pass onto a different section of it
