It's been 20 years since these Tomonobu Itagaki pictures were published in the German magazine Maniac (hi @tapirfortuna.bsky.social), and since everyone is doing their Itagaki memoriams and tributes I'll make the photos public for everyone to use.
A commission for FlashKannon

It's Phaedra! Flash DM's our campaign and this is a major NPC drow character... and in this piece she's dressed as a gyaru!
yeah he’s not even talking about making movies he’s just talking about finding ways to preserve the history of their games.

cant wait for a thousand grifters to make videos running with the misinformation anyway
ok i wrote an entire thread about this but no e of it really applies anymore since apparently we’ve all been clickbaited

does that make any of this less depressing? no, not at all.
a few years prior people blamed him for paper mario being bad and they hated him for star fox zero.. not long after that he became theme park and movie man. really felt like the wii u failing, iwata’s passing, and the corporate shift at Nintendo led miyamoto to give up on games
he might be a business man now but he still has some kind of creative spirit, and I don’t think he likes how miserable nintendo’s attempts at treating games as disposable are, not only that but maybe he’s just tired of making games?
sure, streaming isn’t much better, but it’s an improvement over the hoops you have to jump thru just to play some retro games officially. the games industry is so obsessed with the endless march of progress that old games are an afterthought
everyone is taking this in the most antagonistic way possible but.. i think he sees the writing on the wall with nintendo and the games industry. no AAA company is interested in keeping games up forever, but at least even if blurays go defunct in 10 years, the mario movies will still be on streaming

the idea of this game fascinates me due to its hybrid video/mechanical approach. the two playfields feel like something you’d see in a particularly experimental ds game
now that we have videos, i can repost one of my favorite videos ive ever made:
