What clinched the case against Georgiou and Aquino:
In 2020, workers clearing out an office at Bondfield found a folder. Inside were email printouts showing the two communicating in secret about the hospital's $300M procurement in the days before the deadline for bids.

St. Michael’s Hospital hired its chief admin officer Vas Georgiou without knowing that he had been dismissed by his previous employer – Infrastructure Ontario.
Georgiou and Bondfield president John Aquino were found guilty of fraud this week.

At ErinoakKids children's treatment centre, another Bondfield project was late and FOI documents reported "major defects (warranty items) manifested themselves through incidents such as staff trapped in malfunctioning elevators, major interior flooding, and frigid room temperatures."

Infrastructure Ontario, awarded Bondfield five contracts worth a combined $840-million.
Bondfield’s largest IO project, the redevelopment of Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital, is seven years behind schedule, and the cost soared to $577-million from $300-million.

Water leaked, columns and beams were cracked, staff were getting trapped in malfunctioning elevators. Then came the bankruptcy and the fraud charges.

When big public-private projects go wrong.

#RomanSiteSaturday - The Porta Nigra of the Roman city of Augusta Treverorum in Gallia Belgica (Trier, Germany). The monument is the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps. Constructed in grey sandstone around AD 170, it guarded the northern entry to the Roman town of Augusta Treverorum.

It’s going to be nice to hear some French answers from an #NHLJets player again (first time since PLD). Especially when it’s coming from a guy like Toews, who actually comes from Winnipeg’s Franco-Manitoban community.

Not his fault. Project approved under the Liberals and there were fraud allegations, lawsuits.

When major renovations at Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital were announced, it was supposed to turn the facility into “the premier critical care hospital in Canada.”

Instead, the project is now 7 years late and two key figures were convicted of fraud today. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

Two men convicted of fraud over allegations from the $300-million redevelopment of Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital.

My colleagues first uncovered the procurement issues of this project a decade ago. Investigative journalism is a long-term commitment.

Coiteux is in the news again because he's the new chair of the National Political Commission of the Quebec Liberals. He's known as a staunch federalist and a proponent of govt austerity. The Quebec Liberals are expected to be the main foe against the poll-leading PQ in next year's election.

#GoogleFail.
Martin Coiteux was a Quebec treasury board president, not at the federal level.

A good reminder that you always have to check primary, reliable sources, not just accept the first answer that a machine spits out at you.
Google summary inaccurately describes former Quebec treasury board president Martin Coiteux as having held the same portfolio at the federal level.

There are 9 million refugees, asylum seekers, economic migrants and evacuees, mostly from Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Libya, now in Egypt.
Among them between 100,000 and 200,000 Palestinians from Gaza since the war started.
