Ultimately it’s a political decision being made by elected officials in the case.

Eileen O'Neill Burke can decide who to prosecute in cook county. The cops can’t.

Part of this is bc local & state leos don’t attempt to enforce their laws against ice agents.

Much of their violence clearly serves no legitimate LE purpose.

This is criminal but there’s been no arrest or indictment. Local govs need to prosecute crimes committed in their jurisdictions.
txdcny.bsky.social
Between those two there’s gonna need to be elected dems unafraid of appearing too partisan that hold accountable ppl abusing their power now
txdcny.bsky.social
Presumably there are or will soon be many new ice agents who were not formerly at another federal LEO

And it seems like the type of person inclined to join ice after the last 9 months wouldn’t be particularly averse to doing raids, among other things

They did say that Trump “is absolutely immune from prosecution for the alleged conduct involving his discussions with Justice Department officials”

So they at least took a position on whether ordering the DOJ to open sham investigations of political opponents was an official act

Don’t think the majority of the SC appreciates how illegitimate stuff like this makes them seem to most of the country.

A SC that permits unaccountable masked men to roam cities and detain random brown ppl needs to be reformed and many ppl who didn’t regonize that in Biden’s term now do.

It was always pretty crazy to watch a black constitutional law prof running as the dem nominee for potus explain that he supported one system of legal union for most ppl and a separate, but legally equivalent system of union for gay ppl
txdcny.bsky.social
Yeah. That’s why the Epstein stuff has stuck while most of his other scandals have not.
txdcny.bsky.social
Do you think Russia is currently fascist?

“putting [coverage for legal immigrants] in there exposes dems to me lying about it, so why put it in there”
txdcny.bsky.social
Hard to expect much from scotus considering that in July 2024 they explicitly said Trump was “absolutely immune from prosecution” for ordering “sham” doj investigations of his opponents and granted him presumptive criminal immunity for virtually everything he can do as potus.
The indictment's allegations that the requested investigations were shams or proposed for an improper purpose do not divest the President of exclusive authority over the investigative and prosecutorial functions of the Justice Department and its officials. Because the President cannot be prosecuted for conduct within his exclusive constitutional authority, Trump is absolutely immune from prosecution for the alleged conduct involving his discussions with Justice Department of-ficials. Pp. 19-21.

He was superintendent of DMPS. @laurarbelin.bsky.social has been reporting in it. bsky.app/profile/laur...

Today school board president Jackie Norris said, "No one here was aware of any citizenship or immigration issues that Dr. Roberts may have been facing."
"Everything the district has on file indicates that Dr. Roberts affirmed that he was a citizen who was eligible to work in the school district."
abtnatural.bsky.social
The AP reported a district rep said they've seen "nothing that would suggest that he’s not a citizen". So are they saying he checked the citizen box on the I-9? And if so, I guess they're saying he showed them what appeared to be either a valid U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate?
txdcny.bsky.social
Has there been any reporting confirming that he is legally authorized to reside & work in the US?
txdcny.bsky.social
part of the problem is the Dem leaders in congress are both from NYC and neither would even call for Adams to resign

it’s hard to rain fire and brimstone down on a corrupt admin in the WH & DOJ while absolving the co-conspirator at home
txdcny.bsky.social
He did pardon a lot of them though, including Schiff and Fauci www.newsweek.com/full-list-jo...
Anthony Fauci: Fauci was director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic in Trump's first
administration. He was the target of right-wing criticism over his stance on vaccines and the origin of the pandemic.
• Mark Milley: Milley was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Trump's first presidency. He has said Trump is a fascist and a "wannabe dictator."
• Members and staff of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States
Capitol: Lawmakers involved in the final report were Chair Bennie
Thompson, Vice Chair Liz Cheney, Zoe Lofgren, Adam Schiff, Pete Aguilar, Stephanie Murphy, Jamie Raskin, Elaine Luria and Adam Kinzinger.

glad abolitionists, suffragettes & progressive leaders of the 20th century didn’t decide preserving a relatively stable & prosperous status quo was preferable to progressing toward a more equitable society, despite the risks
txdcny.bsky.social
Adams’ gov of laws, and not of men ended when the SC granted the potus presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution last year w explicit exemption for ordering “sham” DOJ investigations into his opponents.

Dems need a plan to hold ppl accountable for crimes to reassert the rule of law.
txdcny.bsky.social
Dems need a plan to hold the law breakers accountable & they need to campaign on it.

The sense of impunity is insidious and will get worse until ppl start believing again there will be consequences for crimes.

The military is already carrying out extrajudicial executions at the potus’s direction
txdcny.bsky.social
Over half. Trump’s never gotten a majority for potus
txdcny.bsky.social
If the admin believes it can keep trying to violate the law wo consequence, they will until they succeed

If ppl feel they can violate the law w impunity, there’s no longer a functioning rule of law.Ppl need to believe they will be held accountable under law for violations

Too few dem pols get this
txdcny.bsky.social
Agree ppl shld make it as hard as possible, but too many dem leaders still expect the courts to stop Trump’s authoritarian ambitions and that misses the point.

Once the admin feels emboldened to target ppl for their speech in the way they’ve done wo fear of accountability, they’ve succeeded
txdcny.bsky.social
Yes. An art III court may still intervene, but they’re getting very close to having him deported and they’re not gonna stop trying
