Evanston is not some inner-city crime-ridden hellhole, it's an upscale suburb of Chicago occupied by wealthy White people with staffs of housekeepers, nannnies, and grounds tenders. Clearly an uptick in the campaign to terrorize immigrants, even the documented ones, and their wealthy employers.

Weirdly, before his first arrest for the murders - he'd been incarcerated before for minor infractions - Cottingham worked as a computer tech for Met Life in New York alongside another serial killer, Rodney Alcala, aka the Dating Game Killer, a fugitive at the time living under the name John Berger.

Before Joel Rifkin there was Richard Cottingham, aka the Times Square Ripper, also aka The Torso Killer. He prowled Manhattan and New Jersey for victims between 1972- 1980, killing at least 20 - though he claimed 80 in total - and was finally apprehended in 1980. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard...

Just want to ask, Willie: how does a pitched ball hit the bat BEFORE it hits the batter's fingers? I can't remember ever calling a similar play anything other than a hit-by-pitch. The one time I refused to award a batter first base, it turned out he had a fractured finger that ended his career.

22 to 1, sure, but did the game last 5 hours? Did it take 15 pitchers to conclude? Did one of the starting pitchers strike out 13, then get taken out after the 6th before the "next game" even started, and wind up on the losing side - SEVEN pitchers later?

Arlo Guthrie recorded "City of New Orleans" and made it a hit, but it will always be a Steve Goodman tune.

Very long and fruitful! He reportedly had the biggest hands in baseball and could easily hold five baseballs in one hand! He had a post-baseball career in local politics in his adopted hometown of Rockford, Illinois, where his family still lives. (He's second from the right in this photo)

My great-uncle Jim McLaughlin, a Sacramento Solon for most of his pro career, played one game for the Browns on April 15, 1932. Unlike Moonlight Graham, he DID get to bat: he grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Goose Goslin from third, so his lifetime BA is .000 - but he got the RBI!
