Why does that emoji make me so mad lol

China's strategy is kind of like the lessons we've learned. Would you rather have a huge cruiser or two destroyers? Destroyers. They say, "i'd rather have 3-4 battleships." If there's not an assumption of MAD occurring immediately, and you're surrounded by small islands and straits it's smart!

Tbc the shift to littoral vessels was to fight isis or whatever and isis was defeated like a year after they released the first failure of a ship. That's the kind of timeline we're working with.

We are not modernized to fight our greatest naval rival, and that modernizing might include bigger guns which would be at least *like* a battleship. China is gonna make a stupid amount of cheapo ships with big guns and we'd have to spend millions for each attempt instead of shooting a big ol bullet.

Maybe it gets deeper than the preview, but China has a small advantage by having bigger guns, because we have to use tomahawks to beat that range. We're mostly built to defeat the USSR immediately and shifted to a failed attempt at updating littoral vessels.

"Trump suggested the Navy should bring back battleships, the last of which was decommissioned in 1958. It was as if President Theodore Roosevelt had urged his admirals to abandon their new steel ships for wooden sailing vessels." www.thebulwark.com/p/the-birth-...
The Birth Pangs of the U.S. Navy
It was founded 250 years ago today—and, oddly, was promptly ordered to attack what is today its biggest base.

40 years later we'll probably elect mecha-mussolini out of that sheer boredom, but it will be a delightful 40 years.

Eventually we will create the most boring technocracy beyond your wildest imagination, led by friendly career bureaucrats who make median wage and are the Napoleons of environmental regulation and train construction and they will save the world and birth a utopia.

More and more people are becoming subtly Plato-pilled.

I don't want politicians to "talk normally", I like when my elected leaders sound more intelligent and calculated in their words than I do. I would be terrified if I could see myself in a political leader. I want them to be smarter than me, that's their job as a leader.

Not sure if you saw this, about Polish liberals’ confrontation of this very dilemma. Not encouraging! muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/articl...

Hoo boy. This reads so far like the exact concerns I have being enacted. 😭

I've met people with cerebral palsy and they did not look emaciated. It's not an immediate symptom!

My AI research was mostly with the goal of improving solar panels.

I actually knew my wife was into me because I was grasping for something to say and I made a real shit joke and she acted like it was very funny. This strategy makes sense.

As an example, Court packing will be treated as a crisis in national media in a way that explicitly illegal acts trump has undertaken are not. I don't know how anyone can work that. Obama had the greatest democratic win in my lifetime and could just barely pass healthcare reform.

The obvious solutions are likely to seem more extreme than most of Trump's actions particularly given question 1, and given past media tendencies, and they also are just uncomfortable solutions in general.

I kind of struggle with knowing what the best case scenario is given how clearly dumb the electorate is. Like, how do we fix an orbanized media? How do we fix the dumbest most parish SCOTUS? How do we punish all the people deserving if they are pardoned?

Does he do this on video or something? I assumed he did this from the name but is he a known guy?

I think this is controversial but ngl I actually think Google AI search is pretty great. I just pick the best supporting link and double check if it sounds off, but usually the summary is very good. It's much quicker than digging through slop for most queries.

one single step that would do a lot to improve reputation of LLMs would be for Google to abandon AI Mode like they do with all of their other products

Ya I don't think the Nazis were just kind hillfolk until they read a newspaper about Jim Crow laws and went "Wow that's neat, we oughta do something similar! But to whom...?"

Look man, I've been on many bases and the only people consistently smiling are coasties. I resent it, and even if it's a bit unfair, it's comeuppance.

I think that's almost literally the official Israeli govt position

Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey (hamstring) has been upgraded from questionable and now has no injury designation. He’s expected to play on Sunday against the Browns.
