No answer. Just her continued pets as she holds me gently in her palm.

“I’ve got to be better.” Her hand pulls away. I see her body descend and fall away as she lifts me up to her face.

I shield my eyes as light batters me from above. I feel familiar fingers gently grip me and raise me out of her pocket. Nothing but affection in those eyes, not a trace of shame for my failure.

That same affection spreads across my skin as her other hand comes in to stroke my head and back.

I feel stress and anxiety leak out of me, turning to vapor in the air. I feel myself leaning reflexively into her touch. The forces keeping me standing, the fears and expectations of existence, can no longer stave off my exhaustion. I feel my eyes start to droop and my mind start to drift.
