Jax had died. His heart stolen from the entity only known as The Artist. In a desperate attempt to revive their fallen friend, Naomi, Makana, and Thanatos poured their magic into his dying body, as his soul delved deep into the darkness of Death’s domain.

Hel sits there, Death, that’s who she is. So to see Jax meet her in her domain she can’t help but feel herself saddened for her son, Thanatos. But as she watched the body fall into the abyss she saw the tethers of magical light attach themselves to Jax. She could only think to herself as she watched the display. Thanatos was trying to go against his nature…maybe he thought he could because he deemed Jax’s time has not come. But Hel only sighed, she will grant him this one wish.

Hel allows the thread to pull the body back to the shining light before darkness envelopes her vision again. A shimmering golden spark in her eye. Has she gone too soft on them..?

It was difficult to draw her ascended form after being blessed by the King in Yellow, but I found some inspiration and feel this is the best interpretation.

A woman wearing pirate garbs drawing a sword, the source of the transformation and her magical powers over water and swordplay. She lives a double life, one of boring and lonely studying as the straight A student, always a rule follower. Until the sword appeared to her and promised her a life of adventure, to sail the seas of life with vigor and fun.

But she has to keep these things separate from her normal life. People must not know the amount of laws she’s broken, things she’s stolen, the people and monsters she’s killed. Besides who would believe a lonely honors student could do such a thing? But what if she’s liking the destruction she’s causing others? What if the mask she’s wearing is actually the one of her normal life instead of the other way around. Her reality is slipping from her, did she always enjoy breaking the rules, plundering and murdering? Or did she just want to live a little to get out of the boring cycle? Either way the Sword eggs her on, to go on the next big adventure, to slaughter the biggest monster, raid and steal for herself. She deserves it all anyways, what good are grades in the grand scheme of things? A future of boring office jobs? No—she wants to rule her life, to rule the seas.
