The moonlight stares
At dashing madness;

Grasping at the orb,
Lingering on blurring lines
Of dust and rain and deeds.

It was like a nuclear flash in my soul. I listened him sing and my heart refused to beat again. I could hear his perfect Truth, his devotion expressed with his full chest. I realized then that he could never be mine. I wept bitter grief for centuries in the blink of an eye.

It just stared at me, glassy-eyed and scowling. At least, I'm pretty sure it could see me. Innsmouth faces don't seem to work the way everyone else's do, and it didn't seem to be using the sights. Two barrels in my face, and me just out for a stroll on the wrong beach.

I made it home. I shouldn't have. The storm tossed the road like waves. I was flying through the wind like sharks had the scent of my blood. My core temperature dropped so low I could feel my blood crawl. My focus drew into a tiny voice in the back of my head, "almost there, almost there."
