An old lawyer in love with new music, among other things. Snappy patter & wordplay a subspecialty. Not one of those George Wallaces you may have heard of. Occasional longer outbursts via georgewallace.substack.com. Mostly harmless. Neither mod nor rocker.

Speaking of Jimmy Webb songs: this album is a mere $7 on Bandcamp and the renditions of "Moon/Mistress" and "Wichita Lineman" will repay that investment in no time.

I went looking for that article because I vividly recall learning from it for the first time that overdosing on Tylenol - which, in those days, was very much the 'kind and gentle' alternative to aspirin - was pretty damned ghastly, particularly if it didn't kill you outright. NYT reminded me today.
Taking Too Much Tylenol Has Proven Risks. Trump Didn’t Talk About Those.

It's charming [not actually the right word] that if you search for the Summer 1981 CoEvolution Quarterly/Whole Earth Catalog article "How Not to Commit Suicide" (which gives particulars on what's most awful in each readily available method) Google AI will direct you to suicide prevention resources.

My Bandcamp collection includes at least 6 different versions of "Stay On It." Derive what you will from that.

The Pasadena No Kings event is right 'round the corner from my office, where I will be working on Saturday anyway. I am tempted to attend, certainly, and I am thinking that this might be the proper occasion to sport my Alex Sopp-designed Julius Eastman shirt for the first time.
A black t-shirt, featuring an illustration by musician/artist Alex Sopp of the late composer Julius Eastman. It is supremely cool.

In a better world, "JD Vance, J.D." would be the title of a spoof legal drama in the style of Airplane!/Police Squad/Naked Gun.

"Heterodoxy" is a portmanteau word for the condition of being both a hetæra and a doxy.

I miss Abraham Lincoln.
We all should.
Now that's what I call a Republican.

100 years ago today, October 6, 1925:

The Lincoln Exedra, a memorial to President Abraham Lincoln, was dedicated by the Lincoln Society in Peekskill, New York. The monument on South Street overlooks the spot where Lincoln stopped and spoke from aboard his Inaugural Train on February 19, 1861.
The land along South Street on which the Lincoln Exedra sits was donated to the Lincoln Society in Peekskill by its former president John W. Smith in 1921. The memorial was designed by architect Gilbert Hart Anderson, a lifelong Peekskill resident. Antonio S. Renza, president of the Peekskill Construction Company, built the foundation with granite from the local Mohegan Quarry. The Exedra is owned today by the City of Peekskill. (Andy Bass photo) A view looking west from South Street in Peekskill shows the Lincoln Exedra. Visible in the background below behind the flagpole are the Hudson River and the Lincoln Depot Museum (red brick building) on South Water Street. The 19th century building was the spot where Lincoln spoke from aboard his Inaugural Train on February 19, 1861. (Andy Bass photo) The centerpiece of the Lincoln Exedra is a bronze tablet created by Tiffany Studios of New York City. It features a bas relief profile portrait of Lincoln above an inscription about the memorial. Which member of the Microsoft brain trust was it who thought it was clever to use Control+S to mean "Save" in Word, and also to use Control+S to mean "Send" when drafting an email message in Outlook?

On the ambient end, here's a Bill Nelson obscurity: a collaboration with Fila Brazilia and, good lord, none other than Harold Budd.

With the bonus tracks, this release covers even more of Mr. Nelson's range of interests than I'd thought. Recommended and satisfying.
