The contradiction between OpenAI's privacy claims in court and their actual surveillance practices shows why we can't rely on US tech giants for critical digital infrastructure. Time to accelerate European AI independence.

OpenAI Says It's Scanning Users' ChatGPT Conversations and Reporting Content to the Police
OpenAI has authorized itself to call law enforcement if users say threatening enough things when talking to ChatGPT.

New revelations that OpenAI monitors ChatGPT conversations and involves police should be a wake-up call for Europe. We need sovereign AI systems built on European values: privacy, transparency, and democratic oversight.

If your storage looks like a digital episode of Hoarders, this tool will show you exactly which folders are plotting against you: grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net

GrandPerspective has been my hero this week - turns out I had 3 versions of the same LLM, 17 abandoned Docker volumes, and enough cached data to reconstruct the internet circa 2003.

POV: You're testing Docker + ML projects and your Mac is crying because apparently every model needs to be the size of a small country's GDP in gigabytes 💀

💡Introducing HEAL License draft:

All that to say: I really enjoyed your post.
I love that we’re both exploring similar ideas from different angles.
That’s what makes these experiments valuable — and the community fun.

Would love to swap ideas again sometime!

But my personal challenge here was:
→ Run everything locally
→ On a first-gen Apple M1
→ Using only open-source stuff (Whisper, NLLB…)

No APIs. No cloud. Just a CLI and a mic.
Not because it’s easier.
That’s the only way to meet the constraints and learn something cool on the way.
waxzce.org
That said, I totally get the trade-offs.

Online AI services are incredible — especially for generative tasks.
If your context allows it, by all means: use them. They’re fast, smart, and often better than what’s feasible on-device.

So for this project, I made the choice to stay local.
Not out of paranoia, but because:
→ The data is sensitive
→ The partners are sensitive
→ And therefore, using Google’s stack wasn’t an option
waxzce.org
The thing is, there’s actual data out there showing contracts don’t always protect us.

The US FISA court processes ~30,000 data access requests per year.
This isn’t tinfoil-hat territory — it’s reality. And I do not even talk about google usage of your data for their product or interest...

I once bought a beautiful handmade shirt.
It was soft, colorful, and fit perfectly.
I strongly believed it would protect me from AK‑47 bullets.
We all tell ourselves comforting stories. 🧵
waxzce.org
That’s fun isn’t it. However I choose to execute everything on the laptop for data confidentiality and no api to process

Built this fast with heavy help from Cloud Code and AI tooling.
Once again: LLMs are not just for prompts — they’re fantastic for dev workflows.

It shows you real-time subtitles — up to 3 languages simultaneously.
One CLI. One mic. One screen.
All the brains come from Whisper and some @hf.co magic with NLLB.

Meet real_time_translation:
a tiny CLI tool that live-transcribes multiple languages at once from your mic input. (use a good mic like the DJI mic)
