I'm so cranky lately that I filmed 3 videos & over 2 hours of footage just complaining about a new contemporary romance I read. It is not that serious but apparently it is.

You said this at BookNet Fest too and I thought you were awesome. The awkwardness doesn’t come through. I’m sure you did great!
Did you cry? I might. HOW COOL!
Yes yes yes. I LOVE this book so much and hope you have a blast.
One of my followers drew me as a worm (and Beans as the sweetie he is) and I’m IN LOVE
Will def need to unpack the fact that I am least popular among my own demographic one day, but that day is not today. I am young.
Breaking News!!! Apparently, my YouTube and podcast are both mostly enjoyed by Gen Z. I think my middle part has successfully allowed me to become one of the kids.
Hello fellow kids!
Come join our Bindery pages so you can participate in fun stuff like this! Aubrei, Naomi, Steph and I can’t wait to talk Women in Horror with you! @fromthemixedupdesk.bsky.social @starrysteph.bsky.social
I just watched Nosferatu with a few friends and since I saw it already, they asked me to warn them for jumpscares, so I did. Can you imagine if I just rolled my eyes, called them snowflakes and said if they don't like dark movies don't watch them?! I would not be invited back to movie club!
We can't know everyone in a similar way... so isn't proper labeling just the decent thing, the human thing, to do? Shouldn't you want to give a heads up to your own audience so you don't cause unnecessary harm?
This is why it is helpful when my friends who know me can give me a heads up. "Hey, there is pretty graphic rape in THHE" or "FYI they killed actual animals in CH."
So yeah, just don't. 0/10 don't recommend because I am not paid to teach empathy, consideration, etc. and I am not a very patient person so I tend to pop off.
If I choose to watch a horror movie, a lot can be surmised from the genre, NOT EVERYTHING. That's how I ended up in the fetal position after watching The Hills Have Eyes remake. That's what led me to go vegan for a few months after watching Cannibal Holocaust. The genre doesn't tell you EVERYTHING!
AND FURTHERMORE. "Grittier romance" should not equal abuse, sexual assault, rape and other crimes against women. I am begging you to be serious, just once.
If it isn't meant to titillate then why are 400/600 pages filled with graphic, sexual scenes featuring a freshly 18 year old getting her back blown out by the hottest man to ever live?
If they aren't meant to titillate then why does the whole marketing campaign depend on how HOT and SPICY the book is?
Another thing to just opt out of: telling me that dark romance is not intended to titillate and is simply showcasing a grittier romance than the contemporaries... leave me alone.
If you come into my comments to tell me that TWs aren't necessary because the genre should let you know what you're in for... I'm going to go ahead and ask that you instead, do not do that.
This is on my shortlisted TBR and I know I’m not ready
