this is now my favorite day of the year as well!

I prefer to *not* wake up so annoyed with someone that I have to mute/automatically send to voicemail/etc. out of fear that I will say something regrettable if I have any kind of conversation before the feeling passes, but here I am

having some legitimately good ideas, time to log off

coffee has become a line item in the household budget and I need to sort out my feelings

I suspect they sing but I am not sure it’s on a perceptible (by humans) frequency. I’ve never heard them but I am not too well-traveled

Not sure about the rain, either

These may be questions we have no business asking

brilliant, what will it take to make this happen

I wonder if they want to get wet or if it’s just a nuisance

The enlargement certainly makes it seem so!

Do you suppose that giants get the same kind of rain that falls on not-giants? Or do they get a special giant-specific formulation that never makes it beyond their enormity?

Putting my oar in: Here’s Johnny Cash playing Emo’s during SXSW in 1994. The barstool he sat on during this set hung over the inside bar until the place closed (iirc).

Dolly Parton might be the only person to unite more disparate parties in the South than Cash, tho Willie Nelson might have the advantage over Parton in Texas

On Wednesdays we find poems & this one is mine:

REWRITE MAN
A found poem in which some existing text is struck so that only the poem remains

Rewrite Man

"One
newspaper is enough for America," they said.
Publishing a paper
was
not easy
the publishers were always in danger of being put in jail
in those days of no telegraph,
the editors roamed about to taverns, churches, and wharves
editors built schooners to go out
to meet
horses
from the nation's capital.

Advice to Myself

Advice to Myself
Leave the dishes.
Let the celery rot in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator and an earthen scum harden on the kitchen floor.
Leave the black crumbs in the bottom of the toaster.
Throw the cracked bowl out and don't patch the cup.
Don't patch anything. Don't mend. Buy safety pins.
Don't even sew on a button.
Let the wind have its way, then the earth that invades as dust and then the dead foaming up in gray rolls underneath the couch.
Talk to them. Tell them they are welcome.
Don't keep all the pieces of the puzzles or the doll's tiny shoes in pairs, don't worry who uses whose toothbrush or if anything matches, at all.
Except one word to another. Or a thought.
Pursue the authentic-decide first what is authentic,
then go after it with all your heart.
Your heart, that place
you don't even think of cleaning out.
That closet stuffed with savage mementos.
Don't sort the paper clips from screws from saved baby teeth or worry if we're all eating cereal for dinner again. Don't answer the telephone, ever, or weep over anything at all that breaks.
Pink molds will grow within those sealed cartons in the refrigerator. Accept new forms of life and talk to the dead
who drift in through the screened windows, who collect patiently on the tops of food jars and books.
Recycle the mail, don't read it, don't read anything except what destroys
the insulation between yourself and your experience or what pulls down or what strikes at or what shatters this ruse you call necessity.

All other things being more or less equal, I will choose the jar with the most pleasing/satisfying shape

Octagonal jars are a particular favorite (see fig. 1, below)
A tall, octagonal glass jar holds a bunch of pink flowers. In its previous life it was a jar containing pasta sauce. I wonder if it is happier now?

what a thrill that would be!

I am in the midst of reading that now and I am sorry it took me so long to get to it
