Regarding my lack of interaction just lately...

You've got the Tom & Jerry Fists of Furry sequel to look forward to yet, not to mention Aquaman 😂

Looking at that box art, you can't help but wonder if Jelly Monsters was their inspiration for Kirby

Game 24 of 2025 sped through, Sonic Origins.

Enjoyed playing these impeccable titles (and Sonic CD) again, with the subtle modern changes, some good some less so. Some of the challenges were a nightmare to S rank but I enjoyed these games enough to stick at it. A decent way to enjoy the classics.

Eternal Darkness is the better game, no question. Capcom dropped a massive clanger by not making 2-player co-op an option in Resident Evil Zero

Just started the first Hollow Knight. Been hearing what a great game it is but so far I'm just meandering around noir environments, chopping grass and the odd enemy, with no real clue of what I should be doing. Surely it picks up?

Isn't that just Mega Games I? Sonic 1 was built into my SMS, the others were separate cartridges, although World Soccer came as part of Master Games I, alongside Columns and Super Monaco GP. There was no game select screen, you had to switch the console on & off again to cycle between the 3 games

It was one of the 'first games I ever owned' trilogy (along with Sonic 1 & World Soccer) and at the time I did find it hard too. When I encountered the first boss (the lion) I spent ages just dodging its attacks, thinking it would go away on its own 😂. Know it like the back of my hand these days.

Flag waved on game 23 of 2025, Horizon Chase Turbo.

Recent real-life events have left me struggling to enjoy gaming so returned to an old favourite to complete again, adventures and all. Still a phenomenal retro inspired arcade racer that hits all the right notes, just low-poly perfection.

Yeah @fotmob.com don't go that far down the Dutch football pyramid 😂
I suppose it's a pretty niche interest, unless you live in a small town in the Netherlands

Inaugural top-flight winners, R.U.N Amstels. Also Cadetten VV Velocitas, HVCV Quick (is that another name for one of your picks?), Racing Club Heemstede, Rapid Juliana Combinatie... Definitely a pattern. Vitesse seem to be the only one where the original club's still going.

Those steel bookcases on wheels, damn there's a memory unlocked. I bought Sonic books, including the Where's Sonic (Where's Wally type numbers) titles, while the other kids were building up their Goosebumps collections.
I got into Asterix books when I regularly visited the library some time later.

Never really had much experience with it beyond a few goes at my mate's house way back when. Although the 4-buttons diagonal face button layout has stood the test of time, becoming the standard for the majority of controllers since.

In the modern sphere there's Horizon Chase Turbo which has a nice Outrun vibe (and its Senna Forever DLC that's a throwback to the Super Monaco games) but yeah, other than that there's very little. Even Micro Machines' modern effort was an embarrassment compared to what we had in the 90s.

Wonder if it's a regional thing, the different names for it? Like with these, err... baps?

Got Inside/Limbo in the backlog, along with a load of other Switch games, and Sonic 2 needs no introduction. She might like Kill It With Fire, with the OTT spider killing.

I'd never played a Metroid game before then either, with the N64 being my first Nintendo machine I wasn't familiar with the series prior. It was CUBE scoring it 9.6/10 - the third-highest score they gave of any GC game during the magazine's lifespan - that persuaded me to give it a go.
whyalwaysjamesy.bsky.social
Been looking at playing this one myself. Without saying too much, do you need to finish Quake 1&2 to understand the story?

Any nearer to deciding how you're going to mark the occasion?

From the handful I've played, Mega Bomberman (MD) by a considerable margin. Hero (N64) was good too but Generation (GC) was a bit meh. I'd like to see an English patch of Bomberman Kart DX as it was 🇯🇵 only, and the original we got over here was like using a Nissan Micra on Gran Turismo

Game 6 of 2025 sped through, Goldeneye with Sonic Characters.

A wonderful tribute to Adventure-era Sonic via N64's best film tie in shooter. The story's translated over well, with a mix of human & badnik enemies, and a good cast list despite some surprise omissions. Been great to enjoy this again.

I think I've played Sonic on everything I've ever owned, except for the Gameboy Color. Hell, I've even played it on N64, sort of

Game 7 of 2025 beat, Super Mario 64 Sonic Edition+

A brilliant hack with some lovely touches and a faultless choice of music for each world, sadly let down by the fact Sonic's speed and Mario's precision platforming don't mix. Far too frustrating, a shame considering the love that's gone into it.
